Here are a couple of shots of my desk at work. The bottom photo shows the Clairefontaine notebook I use as a journal (under the fan), and sitting on it is my Duofold Senior...the only FP I have with me here today! You can also just make out 3 bottles of ink near the upper right...that's Waterman Black & 2 bottles of Private Reserve Midnight Blues.

this is exactly how tidy and organized I spent the majority of my life..

Bill, any chance you're planning on visiting MI any time soon? ..sigh..

When 'the tidy' have uncontrolled 'fallout' land thickly, it's quite a chore getting back to 'this';)

I know what you mean! My desk gets wrecked in a hurry sometimes! Every now & then I make an effort to throw out old papers & tidy everything up. My home desk, on the other hand.... :yikes:

A montage of the pen study (not showing the case that houses the overwhelming majority of pens).

You will need to hit the black expander bar to see whole thing, and then when page opens with image, probably need to click on that to expand to full size if your browser shrinks to fit page.

Hmmmm, how have I missed this thread all these years! Good timing though, I just reworked my office a little bit recently and re-painted the walls.

Here is my un-restored 1920-1940's oak desk that I hope to refurbish this summer. The office floor will also be getting a new hardwood floor in a light oak this summer, but for now I like it.

Here is a close up of the top of the desk, my laptop is work owned or the computer monitor and keyboard stuff would not be on the desk. My home computer is in a storage room that backs my office wall. This way it is hidden from view and I have ended any fan noise from the CPU. I have the laptop dock, and my home computer hooked togather with a KVM switch. This allows me to toggle the wireless keyboard, mouse and main screen between the two of them. The main screen works in dual screen mode when the laptop is used. Pretty slick really~

PS, yes the rotary phone works and I use it about 10-20 times a day! There is a modern phone hiding behind the screen until I find the right answering machine to hide away.

However, its the printer that seems to steal the show... The frame is counter balanced for now, but it will end up motorized when I am finished with it.

The color is much richer than the photos show, the flash washes out the "warmth" of the green.

And just a shot of the trim work and ceiling. I built the entire office myself, I even hand-made the moldings for the windows and door. (Yes, fluted moldings and all)

http://www.yankeetoys.org/lee/320095.jpg

What do you think?? I can't wait to get the new floor in place and the desk refinished!

In case anyone was curious, the wires feed between the wall and exit behind the desk where they are hidden. They are enclosed in a boxed wire chase from the printer "port" to the hole in the wall.

http://www.yankeetoys.org/lee/428095.jpg

And the 4-prong plug is the old fashioned style phone port for the rotary phone. What you can not see is an in-line DSL filter that is connected between the phone jack block and is wired to the back of this old plug. When I found a flush mount adapter for the 4-prong jack, I just had to buy it~!

This is SO cool, the map sliding out of the way to reveal the hidden storage room!!! Love the map too!

You built that yourself? http://www.bennink.info/smile/worshippy.gif

(And I think I've got a pretty similar desk! Only mine messier to the tenth degree, and it's is untreated wood. I took out the small piece of wood with the nameplate that goes underneath the center drawer, and I've got a door instead of drawers on the left.

Center drawer locks with a key, and there also is a neat intricate wooden locking mechanism for the three drawers on the right - if I close them all, and then close the center drawer - the drawers on the right are locked until the center drawer is opened. )

The map is very simple. The 24" full extension, roller ball, slides are mounted to the wall with some shims to make them lean out from the top of the frame. I did this so that when it is raised it moves away from the wall. This helps with extra airflow out of the "box" and keeps the tracks from scraping the wall. I also shimmed them the same way at the frame side for more air flow and so it looks more like a hanging frame. The tracks are mounted to a piece of 1/2" mdf exactly the size of the inside of the frame. (like the glass size) This helps keep it lined up and a bit stronger. I made some cleats from oak that screw to the frame and lock the frame to the mdf.

The counter weight is simple, yet crude for now. I have some thin wire rope that hooks to the bottom of the frame in the center and a pulley that is on the inside-front of the box. Then the wire rope feeds out the back of the box and makes a 90 degree turn down where a weighted bucket hangs from the end of the wire rope. This will be motorized soon as I think I found the low rpm motor that will work. It's from a cable driven car window motor regulator. Once in place, the fun part of making hidden switches can start!

PS, the map frame was store bought and the map is a cheap reprint from art.com, but looks really nice even up close.

Corienb... Is there any way you can take some photos of what your desk uses at the back of the drawers to lock? Mine was removed at one point and I just have the holes in the back. I have the center drawer lock at a locksmith to have a key hand made right now. (reminds me to light a fire under his butt) Shoot me a PM and I will give you my e-mail if you want to send photos there. I would really apreciate it! In fact, any photos of the entire locking system would help so I can see if the insides are the same as mine too.

A close up of my desk with two favorite pens, a Parker striped Duofold and a Carter pen. The postcards are from FPNers who are in the postcard exchange group. Almost a vintage look, huh?

Well this is my organized chaos desk, used primarily for photography. I have a reasonable stereo I have to work to music.

Corien,

Your desk area looks so cozy, nestled beneath that curved staircase. Although I doubt you'd remember me, I remember you from Pentrace some years past now — I always enjoyed your posts. It was great to see a post from you again.

Here is mine, home-made by me. Not as nice as the antique writing desks I've seen, but something to be proud of. Also has lots of space.

Fine craftsmanship jamesh. I like the pipe stand on top, too!

Is the yellow box an old Waterman ink?

Jamesh, that is a very nice desk, don't undersell yourself! One day, after my office has been expanded, I really want a small desk like that. I think one in that size range set up to hold my pens, ink, and writing supplies would be perfect.

PS, I just noticed the home-made comment! Way to go, it came out wonderful....

Thank you very much, I was hoping someone might like it. I am rather proud myself. No, the yellow box is an old bottle of Aurora Biflux Ink. I have not really gotten into collecting old ink bottles...yet... :D
