Here's my desk. I usually say "Here's my desk, and all of its blasphemous appurtenances!", but someone said "Blasphemous Appurtenances" sounded like a band. I suspect they play heavy metal tunes on viols, virginals and recorders.

In fairness, that's only one of my desks, but it's the desk with all my inks on it.

All those pretty colors I don't use, cos my four fountain pens in rotation all have Noodler's Old Manhattan Black. Sigh.

Collect antique oil-lamps, do we, El Mocho?

The two with the red fluid may be antique. They belonged to a neighbor who passed away. I got them when his son sold them. The inner ones were purchased at K-Mart, Target, or Sam Walton's Empire. My Mom has an actual antique from the Great-Grandparents that will someday be mine.

This is another desk. I cleaned it out with the intention of selling it via craigslist. What I want is a long table, like a farmhouse dinner table, where I can spread out and work on projects.

Is that an empty In & Out cup in your trash can?

That is a very cool desk. What's its history?

Yes.

(Checks Trash)

It's still there. Or another one has replaced it. It's settled some. My trash mostly contains tissue stained with ink. Other features visible in this photo are my Riedel beer goblet in the center shelf and my Banpresto Snorlax that was a UFO Catcher prize. The cars atop the shelves are all die-cast 1/18 Porsches. The cross stitch says "Don't Make Me Cut You," a gift from my fiancee.

The white boxes inside the glass door are Noodler's. I have more now, along with some Private Reserve.

Haha, that desk reminds me of those antique square grand pianos. Looks like a very interesting piece of furniture.

It's a solid mahogany spinet desk, circa mid-century. A writing surface can be pulled out, and there is a cover which, when down, makes this a nice, clean rectangle on lovely turned legs. I bought it at an estate sale last year, cleaned it up. It still has a bunchv dings, scratches, and what looks like ink stains (!). There's a logo burned into the drawer that says Colonial Mfg or maybe Colonial Mfg Co. Something like that.

I love the look of it, but it's impractical for my needs. I need lots of surface area. Lots and lots of surface area. I'm like spilled ink when I work; I spread out.

Edit: too many commas.

Tee-hee...Spinet desk. Looks like a real charmer.

Oh, and for the people who are curious...this is a square-grand:

Seeing all your wonderful workspaces prompted me to tidy mine and post a few pics. All the furniture is from IKEA. I want to find a vintage roll-top desk so I can move my writing tasks to it and keep this for the computer.

My wife has a much nicer office, but I've been banished to the basement!

Must admit it doesn't look like the best setup for a writer. Best of luck in finding your rolltop/slant-top desk. I've always wanted one. Although I think I'd prefer a slant-top desk. More room.

Dale,

It looks like you and I have the same lamp from IKEA. Mine's on top of my desk, and the light fixture itself conceals the base because I have it angled so low.

What I really find myself lacking in these days on a desk is SURFACE area. I have to work to clean mine at home, because I want a lot of room to sit with a manuscript. It looks like your roll-top might solve that problem. I've seen some desks at right-angles to the computer workstation, so you can turn and do both.

In the modern world, I think the L-shaped desk is the best kind. The short end is used to hold the computer & keyboard, mouse (and printer, if you have one).

The long end is for writing-related stuff.

That's how my desk is set up.

I had a roll top for a while and I found it a bit cramped. Mind you, I loved all the little drawers for stashing stuff away.

I think I might prefer a rolltop/slant-top because of all the little holes and drawers and whatever. It would give me places to put stuff like ink and papers and pens and all that fiddly stuff that you just don't know what to do with. Like where the hell do you store paperclips without losing them, for example?

One day I gotta speak to my GP. He's got this old slant-top desk in his surgery that he never uses. I wish I could have it.

I should post new pics really as I have moved my set up into the other room......... still not happy with it though, not enough space and too cramped. What I really want is one of these:
