Mine's finally presentable, sort of a New Year's resolution. I'm still hoping 100 pounds of typewriters don't come crashing down on me.

Looking at all of those "real" keyboards makes my heart flutter!

I sit in chairs now. My whole family is completely modernized except for my uncle, at his place they still sit and eat on the floor. I wish i could sit seiza now since it is better for your back, but unfortunately it's impossible for me. Oh ya, you mentioned that your roots are from Japan. What part of Japan is your ancestry from?

My paternal grandfather is from Tosa, and my maternal grandfather is from Hiroshima.

When I was a kid (a long time ago) growing up here in Honolulu, we would eat dinner sometimes at the table with chairs, and sometimes on the floor. My parents wanted to make sure we could handle both. Dinner utensils were always knife, fork... and chopsticks!

Hawaii has a large Japanese population descended from the indentured sugar plantation laborers that came here at the turn of the 20th century. We're an odd cultural offshoot of 19th century agricultural Japan, but of course we don't think of ourselves as odd at all.

Are you "new" to the U.S.? Might be kinda rude to ask, but I'm just curious...

I'm not a native speaker of the english language. My apologies in advance when I'm causing trouble by bad grammar, wrong vocabulary, misspelling - friendly correction always welcome!

Hey, Art Addict, what are you using in your cigar box to divide the pens apart? I'm trying to cobble together something similar but I can't find a decent pen-friendly dividing material. I've got the box, just need the innerds (and more pens, of course).

Hoi,

this is my desk - currently the "writing setup". (setup for work on the computer would be: keyboard left, pad right) ^^

I had to cover this nice wooden desk with a solid table runner, otherwise there would be scratches everywhere, since the cat likes to put his claws in the wood. And if you were a cat, surely you would like a comfortable bedding too. :)

Please be patient - I'm not a native English speaker ... ergss, writer. Thankful for all comments, hints and advices to improve my language via PN. :)

I was fascinated by this thread! Some of those desks are amazing and the collections of pens....I feel such a novice :crybaby:

Once I've sorted myself out with a bit more 'street cred' of stationery items I will post a pic of mine! :roflmho:

Here's my desk. I inherited it from my mom. That's her picture on the middle shelf. This is as neat as it gets. All this clutter is absolutely necessary. Some days it looks a lot worse than this.

Hey Judybug, I see the rocker-blotter and the ink and pens and whatnot...but on the top shelf to the left --- is that a call-bell?

My mother was a teacher and that's the bell she kept on her desk at school. I guess those bells are a thing of the past. When I was in school, every teacher had one of these bells on her desk and all she had to do to get the whole class to pay attention was to bang on that little button on top that makes the bell ring.

I like the leg room of table style desks, and I'm using 3 long "Euro" desks and a corner round from Levenger.

P.S. On the subject of desks, there is a nice small book of desk photos published

by Chronicle books, in their Chic Simple Components series and "The Writer's desk",

a compilation of photos of writers and their desks by Jill Krementz, reknown photographer

and wife of K. Vonnegut.

My desk arrived today and now I have to find the best place for it in my "office".

Hope, it will stay tidy for a while ;)
