Pen modifications ?

Hello All,

I would value your comments on the following:-

Plunger fillers are very difficult to repair and I have already modified an Onoto by fitting a cartridge convertor by removing the old piston etc..

I am considering using this method on some other plunger fillers.

What are your thoughts on this ?. Good idea :) , bad idea :( , would you buy a converted pen <_< , should it stay pure as ex factory etc...

Say what you think please.

Pic below to show what I mean.

If the conversion is not reversable, I would lean strongly against it. As a temporary solution maybe. If the pen were not otherwise repairable, then OK.

I guess my feeling is that there are a lot of cartridge-converter pens in the world. Part of the joy of having an Onoto plunger-fill would be for the unusual filling mechanism - of not having a generic converter pen. But them I am a sucker for strange filling mechanisms.

I do understand Onoto are a bear to fix.

As for other plunger fillers - do you include Sheaffer vac-fillers in that? I think there are good solutions for vac-fillers, with either the fountain-bel or David Nishimura methods.

But then I tend to be a bit more a purist on these things.

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

Gaery, respectfully, I think it is a bad idea. These are fairly unusual pens and to turn their interesting filling mechanism into a converter fill is not my idea of preservation. I would fix them properly or keep them as they are. There are lots of user pens out there.

Again, it's your pen and I have no problem, whatever you do to it, but I would not buy a modified one.

Thanks for asking!

Thanks Guys,

I really appreciate your thoughts no matter what they might be.

I guess when I get my Eversharp Doric I better repaire it properly then ? or alternatively sell it on as is ?.

I understand that the De La Rue Onoto The Pen plunger fillers are easier to repair than Sheaffer plunger fillers, such as the Vacuum-Fil. I have one restored Onoto plunger filler. It was already restored when I bought it. It seems a shame to put converters in Onoto plunger fillers, but its up to you. They're your pens.
