Pilot Non-Self-Filling Fountain pen

Hari, would it be possible for you to update the images using another image hosting service? Your Photobucket images are no longer displaying due to exceeded bandwidth, possibly because several FPN members (across all threads) insist on including all the images in each of their reply. Each such use costs you further bandwidth. I recommend http://imgur.com/ or http://tinypic.com/

I just dont have the funds now to buy the additional/unlimited bandwidth option from Photobucket, they do offer that. The pics should appear from the 18th of this month, when my monthly bandwidth counter rsets.

I noticed that if you go to the image url directly it still works. Because I have all my bandwidth (I think) and not much else to do at this moment, I'll host the pictures as well to make it easier. I hope you don't mind. They are, of course, hari's.

Thanks, Hari and Will! The pen looks really good, no doubt in part due to Hari's excellent photos. Did you get these in Bombay? If so, I would like to know from where, because I will likely be in Bombay in the next few weeks. thumbup.gif

Ninad, you should be able to find atleast one of these pens in one of the many pen shops in the fort area. Just ask for the Pilot "Regular" filling pen. I have a thread showing a few Mumbai pen shops somewhere in the photography sub forum.

The 78G is a fairly popular and inexpensive pen here on FPN. I don't have a Pilot no 5/10 or 15 nib to take a comparison shot, but I can take a shot along with a 1911M, Sheaffer NN, Sonnet, frontier so that you get an idea. Tell me which one of these you are familiar with...

None AFAIK. It is called the nonb-self-filling pen. it can be called the Pilot Tank pen though.

Best,

Hari

Too late to post a reply. But I want to point out that "Non-self-filling" is most appropriate.

Decades ago, ED pens were knocked out of the market by "Self-filling" pens.

Now the time for revival of ED pens has come and it can can brag that it is NOT self-filling.

Hi,

I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier, but you can actually pull the white piece out of the end of the section and just use Pilot cartridges and converters in the pen. My sister has one of these that never came with the white piece, and her pen was used with cartridges, but I noticed this because of Hari's detailed photos.

Dillon

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Can you please tell me where in Mumbai this pen can be bought?

One seller from Chennai is selling these pens on www.ebay.in at a very good price:

Stephen Brown just posted a video review of this pen on YouTube:

Looks like a nice pen for a very reasonable price.

I watched the review, good only, the existence of such a pen by Pilot in today's age will reach more people, esp who like to watch video reviews.

About the filling instructions that he mentions, I would like to place on record that I had published them way back in 2008 in this thread on FPN:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/70845-fs-great-bargain-on-wality-eyedropper-pens/?p=686265

This has been rewritten, adapted and re-used by many ED pen sellers, which is also good only for the hobby.

Best

Hari

This pen can be used as c/c Pen easily using pilot cartridge and con50 convertor. You have to remove plastic sleeve from section and push the white piece at the end of the barrel using any steel Rod to compress it little bit

I usually remove the white sponge.

Any idea what the stuffing (wool?) in the barrel is for?

To limit the amount of ink that can be filled into the barrel.

This is a mind blowing pen at the price range. I am enjoying the smooth writing of medium nib. The nib and flow is also amazing. The earthworm like design of the grip section is also very rationally designed.

Hello,

Anyone has any idea where this pen can be bought (eBay or other)? The eBay.in link above is not working anymore.

Many thanks

Just search for "pilot tank pen" on eBay and it will bring it right up. I have thought about getting one myself. You can buy it now from a US source for $23 in M. They are also sold from India.

I tried getting the foam out with needle pliers. It didn't want to come out. It must be glued in.

It still burped

The foam is a pain. I dismantled the pen for the nib.

At 5.5mm wide it wouldn't go in a Jinhao 500 or 599 as they have a #5 nib.

It was perfect for a blue Wality 58C. It was worth buying the ''Tank' for the nib.
