Noodler's Green, Red and Brown

I like them!

Some retailers label these as Noodler's "Standard" Green, Red and Brown.

These inks are not advertised as waterproof.

Appearance:

The green is closer to chlorophyll (less blue) than Levenger Gemstone Green and darker than Levenger Always Greener. It doesn't go through any noticeable color variation ("shading") during writing.

The red is center-spectrum and dark enough to be easy on the eyes for several lines of text. It doesn't go through any noticeable color variation during writing.

The brown is nice and vegetal. It varies between darker and lighter than Levenger Cocoa, a little less red and a little more yellow. Noodler's Brown goes through very interesting color variation during writing with the slightly flexible 14 karat gold Pelikan nib (I'm untrained and unpracticed in taking advantage of nib flexibility), ranging from as light as caramel to as dark as the used leaves of black tea.

I read in KCat's review of Noodler's Kiowa Pecan that the colors in Kiowa Pecan separate if the ink sits too long unused in a pen. I'll watch out for that in the Standard Brown.

Performance B) :

They flow well through and out of a pen, and they don't dry-smudge.

For their good behavior on loose-fiber paper, see this message.

The brown does much better on loose-fiber paper than Levenger Cocoa and J. Herbin Lie de Thé ('Black Tea')!

Water test, 30-minute soak in a bowl and a rinse under the tap:

The green left a faint-yet-persistent, light blue behind.

The red left a fainter-yet-still-persistent, magenta-pink behind.

The brown left some N's Black behind, enough that the text ended up very legibly gray even at its lightest points. Therefore, this is a Noodler's color to avoid getting on cotton, rayon or linen.

Enjoy!
