If you could only have one pen

After all the pens I have tried (waterman Harley, plileas,A couple Indian brands,Lamy Safari, Pilot (dunno the model),Pelkan grand prix & pelikano),

I have found true love in Schneider Base (my first fountain pen after I converted) and Sheaffer No-Nonsense.

Workhorses rule for me.

Horrible idea! :yikes:

My LAMY Safari - no I am not kidding, only pen I have owned that starts first time, every time, even if I have left it inked and forgotten for at couple of months.

I feel traumatized at the thought of having to give up all of my pens but one. But. If I absolutely had to... I'd keep my Pelikan M215 with an F nib. Although some of my other pens are better for this or that specific purpose, this is definitely my best all-around pen: at least adequate for each purpose that I put fountain pens to, and excellent for some of those purposes.

My 1945 Parker "51" Vacumatic, Cedar Blue and GF Cap (and I'm really not such a big fan of blue, but this pen says a lot to me)

A tough choice but for an every day pen I'd keep my new Sage Green Parker 51 Special with the nice wet medium nib. If I had to choose just one to keep. Smooth & sweet!

It should be my Pelikan Soveran M1000. It's my best. However, I would have to choose the Parker 51 left me by Dad.

Of course, this assumes that poverty forces me to sell all the others. I can't imagine who might tell a free American that

he could not have another fountain pen.

Sorry. I know this is just for fun. Please excuse the visceral reaction to all things tyrannical.

if I could only have one pen, it would be my Visconti Portofino L.E. #26 of 150 made in 2001. This pen was made exclusively for the Fountain Pen Hospital.....for resale, it weighed 32.1 gr. and was 12 sided. It is 5.5" Capped x 6.5" Posted. The colors? Are Cream, Ivory and Black cellulose acetate. wish that i had a pic to show you but it is locked up in my pen inventory......

When you say Sage Green you mean Navy Grey? Just curious, because I too have always thought that my Navy Grey "51" have a greenish tint.

I'd say the Lamy 2000, but with a fine nib rather than the medium I have right now. Of all my pens, it's the one I enjoy the experience of the most.

It would be between my Lamy 2000 Fine and the Pelikan 200 Medium (green & black) I got from a friend, which is a butter smooth writer. I think for its design & engineering I'd go with the 'Bauhaus '65 Posterchild'. It has never ever not worked perfectly and has the feel I like best. So Many wins the toss.

Great question! Though I love my M800 & M1005, and the Cross Century is a joy, I would also have go with the Lamy Safari EF as the "one and only". Man, that's a nice pen for everyday writing.

Between the Sailor 1911 full size in matte black and my Pelikan M1000. But there's still nothing like getting a new pen with a customized nib.

  • 3 months later...

I just got a Lamy Joy with a 1.1 nib, and it is fast becoming a favorite pen.

Will it bump the 180 from the top spot...maybe, maybe not.

But it is a very nice pen to write with, and the line variation from the italic nib is neat.
