Which Pens to buy?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking to get a nice writing FP. I have about $150-200 to spend. The chioces that I have been looking at are the Sheaffer Legacy Heritage for $155 or I could get the sheaffer Prelude for $40 and the Parker Inflection for $40-80. Would the Sheaffer Legacy be a much better pen?? What would you guys suggest? what other Pens do you guys recommend for my price range??

Thanks :D

Hi Paco,

It's not really how much to spend but more of what you want out of a pen.

Size, nib style, filling mechanism, weight, colour, durability, use etc....

Give us some hints, you'll get heaps of reccomendations.

We are all here to help.

To be honest with you I don't know much about filling systems. I've been looking through the forums to learn more about them. I like a larger pen. I have a Cross Verve RB that I love. The size, weight, feel. I don't have much experience writing with a FP. The ones I have written with where very scratchy. So if I could find one that writes smooth like a RB that would be great!! I like a fine point line as well.

Ooops forgot to add Danitrio raw ebonite from Winedoc, superb pens and great nibs.

You say you like larger pens. Here are some larger pens in the range between $100.00 and $200.00.

As it happens, these are alll pens that I sell. But you can see from these photos showing only a few pens from only three makers that there's a great selection out there.

I will tell you that I was lucky because I'm finding the more I read the various postings on here, the more I'm learning. Take a few moments to read the pen reviews...man o' man did I have my eyes opened (steered away!) to some potential purchases. Certainly great looks doesn't equal a great writer.

I would suggest (if available) stopping by a pen store to handle some pens. In addition, there's a number of very honest and knowledgeable individuals in this 'site that you can contact to get some idea of a suitable pen for your writing style.

Enjoy the chase....

Try as many pens you can. Check the size for a comfortable grip, weight and balance, and then check the nib sizes, styles and flex.

It is a long inky road! Enjoy!
