Camlin store for Camlin entry level FP.

Already subbucal has suggested me inexpensive FPs but sadly failed to find.

I have short listed few like Camlin 47,Reynolds Grippy,Flair Classy or any good Airmail/Wality FP.

I read few reviews in Indian inexpensive Fp in forum and I think these gonna be suitable for me.

I'm just a beginner not a pro.

I tried to avoid online shop cos they are not reliable or price are higher than local market.

But,guess I have no choice now except online shops.

Tried to find at ebayIN but above FPs are not there even the Wality.

Can't try ebayCOM cos I have no CC/PayPal AC.

These are the reason force me to search FPs in local shops in Kolkata.

I just purchased one of these pens from fellow FPN'r Bill P. I am amazed that this pen writes nicely right out of the gate. It holds a very decent amount of ink, the piston runs smoothly, and the nib is a true fine with excellent flow at about 6-7. No it isn't the fanciest looking pen, but is still very attractive in it's fit and finish. I think one would be hard pressed to find a better bargain. If I were a student, or someone taking a lot of notes, this pen will easily write all day without a fill. It looks as if I will be buying a few more of these in the future.

these are incredible bargain fountain pens with the ratio of price to performance very high, considering that these are priced at around INR 60 (less than 1 USD) in retail here.

Thank you for the correction, it has been a long time since I bought one or even inked one of the many that I already own. :) Too many pens so little time.

I believe Hari has just created the motto of FPN. We should have it worked into the sash of a coat of arms: something like crossed purposes below a Pelikan rampant over a field of spilled J. Herbin Bleu Nuit ...

Just bought a black one yesterday.Filled it with Camel permanent black ink (what else?). Velvety smooth fine nib out of the box (well, plasitc sleeve actually) almost at par with a Parker Urban. A good looking (especially in black) piston filler all for only Rs. 75/-. Makes one go all patriotic! Saw it in the course of buying a Chelpark ED for my business partner; came back and opened this thread. Hari, you are to blame :) Thanks a lot!

Thanks Hari for reminding me of this pen I treasured in my school and college days.

I tried to dig out the 'old gold' from my parents' place when I visited India last month - Camlin 47, Wilson Elegant, some old Heros. But in vain . I had picked up some old pens from my grandpas too. But none remain said my mom. :crybaby:

After going through FPN I thought how silly it was to tinker with pens like a blacksmith while in school / college. Should have been more careful and treated them like babies and I'd have had a huge collection of vintage pens.

In my next visit to India I must try to get one. Got a SD and ELEGANTE (for my daughter) in my visit now.

Thanks for the informative review Hari...and just for bring this pen up...I'd never seen one either until now.

Honestly, I don't love the aesthetics of the pen. Just my personal taste. But I must say, it does look like it would ergonomically be very comfortable to write with. You mentioned the price was relatively low, but I didn't see an actual $ amount in your review, and when I clicked the link you attached at the beginning, the site couldn't be found.

Any idea what it goes for?

Thank you. This review is now more than 6 years old, in the meanwhile, websites have moved. Here is their new webpage:

http://www.kokuyocamlin.com/product/fountain-pens-ink/economy-range-of-fountain-pens-28-108-4.html

The aesthetics are directly borrowed from the Montblanc Monterosa.

Subbucal in post no 47 of this review mentions the exact price the pen is sold for in India.

Hope this helps.

Hari

Hello Hari sir,

Greetings and thanks for this great review.

Not sure how but three months back I come to this review during searching some images on internet.

I have three Camlin 47s. One is from 2001 when I was in HSC other is 2004 ie BE Final year and third one is very recent, purchased in December 2014. Old two pen's nib is changed becasue those were get broken due to rust but I have changed those with nibs from Kale Pens, Pune and working very fine. New one with Camlin Stock nib is as usual very smooth.

By the way I really thanks to you becasue not only Fountain Pens but taking my attention towords nostalgic HMT watches also. Thing 'watch' was totally out of my life since I am using the mobile but now I have good number of HMT mechanical watches.

Thanks,

Prashant K

Hey Hari,

Still have this at home. Used it during school days (98-99) and there was a similar pen from Chelpark too with a diamond cut ink window.

Nice to see your review :)
