A Comparison Review of Stub-Italic Pens:

+1 for the 78G.

My only complaint was that I found it quite dry. The wife liked it though, so I swapped it for the F nib on her Pilot Prera. She now finds the B nib on her Prera lovely and smooth, I now find the F nib fitted to my 78G to be likewise, even though it writes like a needle; perfect for making notes in the margins. Go figure...

2 more difference between the Lamy joy and the Rotring ArtPen.

#1 the grip

The grip on the Lamy joy has flats that position your fingers in the common tripod grip, with the thumb at about 1030 and the index finger at about 130. This is fine...unless you use the finger over grip, with the index finger at 12 and the thumb at about 730. Your fingers and thumb would be on the outer portion of the grip, not in the flats. It can be done, I've done so. But now the grip will feel larger and not quite as comfortable.

The Rotring ArtPen has a circular section/grip, so it does not matter how you hold the pen.

#2 the nib

The Lamy nibs max out at 1.9mm, the Rotring goes up to 2.3mm.

Beyond 2.3mm and I think you will be looking at the Pilot Parallel pens.

The Rotring also came in a 2.7 (long since out of production). They are pretty sweet if you are inclined toward the broader end of things. To round things out, there is a matching lead holder (again OOP). But both tools are still floating around in original boxes . . .

KEEP CALM AND BOOGIE ON!

Another comment on the joy.

Even if it does post, why would post the cap? Posting the cap makes the pen tail heavy. The joy balances nicely unposted.

I normal post my clip pens. However, if posting the cap makes the pen too tail heavy, I will use the pen unposted.
