Delta Dolce Vita Piston Filler

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I bought a new Delta.

It's the new Dolce Vita, medium size, piston filler.

Seems to be a new model available since this summer.

It's slightly longer than the standard Dolce Vita medium size, with the same diamater. At the end of games, similar to the medium size for the diameter, similar to the OS for the lenght. A good compromise for me, being the OS a little FAT.

The novelty is the piston filling. With about 40 Euros more you can buy this piston filling instead the classic medium size C/C. One of the question that I always made to myself was "why should I pay all these money for a C/C pen?".

In fact, I always liked the look of the Dolce Vita, but not the C/C...

Now finally the answer.... a Dolce Vita Piston filling!!!!!

I loaded it with a standard Parker Quink, dark blue, and this pen writes perfectly. Even if the nib is very similar to the one on my Parthenope, the Dolce Vita is smooter and more flexible.

The filling system (a real piston filler, not a "fake") is made of metal, seems very solid, and the weight of the pen is just as it should be, not light and not heavy.

I wanted to share with you my love for this pen!

Thank you for sharing your impressions. I have the standard medium size c/c (purchased this spring) and now I regret I don't have this new model. I have just one concern: is the body color less "luminous" when the pen is completely filled by ink? I'm asking because the color is one of the thing that make this pen to "stand out" and I am afraid that having the barrel full of black liquid may affect this...

Thanks,

I picked up a Delta Dolce Vita Piston filler at the D.C. Show. I couldn't and didn't resist. I've been using it, filled with the safest ink I own, Waterman Blue Black, ever since then. It's been on vacation with me, and I don't think I'm ever going to tire of it. So far, no discoloration of the resin from the ink. It's just a good writer and a pleasure to look at. I'm glad I bought it.

I just received my Delta Dolce Vita Piston Filler in the mail today and sadly it has a bad 'top cap' -- the clip and the top part of the cap do not alight properly -- so I'll be sending it back for an exchange or repair. Consequently, I have not tried the nib. It turns out to be a 14k gold nib (not 18k).

My initial impression is that it feels cheaper than my other Deltas. I say this about the top cap workmanship but things like the silver band around the bottom of the cap looks very cheaply done.

How have you all found it to perform? Is the 14k nib as good as their 18k nibs? Does the piston work well?

Three strikes for me with this one: (1) the ink window shows when the pen is capped; (2) it has the smaller nib (the large on the OS is just incredible!); and, (3) it comes in that silver trim which absolutely clashes with the orange of the barrel. I already miss the OS vemeil I recently sold, but it got virtually zero use because of the c/c filling system. If they removed the above three deficiencies (IMO), this pen would be the ultimate for me.

Always has to be SOMETHING, doesn't it?

Sazerac,

I have the Delta Doce Vita piston pen. I bought it at the DC pen show this summer. To my eye (I own some very nice pens) the Doce Vita is absolutely beautiful. Better yet it writes like a dream. I love the window to see how much ink is left in the pen. And, its a real piston filler with wonderful engineering. It seems that the way the filler knob is engineered you can't overscrew the piston filler knob. About the only thing that I can think of to make the pen perfect would be a two tone nib. I think you can tell I love the pen. I chose the sterling silver trim.

AMP, this is good to hear. I love all my other Deltas, and this is the first one that came from the factory with a problem. I hope I like it as much as you like yours.

Just collected mine today from T Sharp & Co (Perth's principle retailer of quality pens). I ordered a broad nib specially and find it to be a wonderful writer with a great nib and huge ink capacity. It's currrently filled with Omas grey, and I'm very pleased and can see this becoming one of those pens that are almost permanently in rotation. I've always liked the Dolce Vitas but thought a coverter a waste in such a big pen-one dream answered and much recommended to everyone!

This is all good to hear. I hope to have my Dolce Vita piston back from Italy sometime in the next couple of weeks. I've been using my DV OS in the mean time. Not a bad substitute.

I'm still a little hacked off that I had to wait more than seven weeks, by now, for a correction to a pen that was factory new and unused with a clear defect. Why Yafa would not simply exchange the pen still baffles me.

Hoping for the best...

Tried one a year ago and I found the nib less smooth than my Pelikan 800 nib or than my Omas Paragon nib.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
