Lined Paper for Writing Letters

Hi everyone!

Do you have any recommendations for lined paper for letter writing? The kind of letters that you give to others. Hence, the paper has to be luxurious, where people know it's quality stationery at a glance; best if water-marked, or has some nice brand icon somewhere.

I generally prefer a really smooth surface, like Maruman's high quality report pad (Japanese). However, that paper is too thin and "cheap-looking" for special letters. Mostly because it is note-taking paper and has stuff like "No." and "Date" at the top.

6 or 7 mm ruled lines would be ideal. It absolutely has to be ruled because my writing wouldn't look good otherwise.

The paper absolutely cannot bleed, but if the writing shows through on the other side, that's okay I guess. Writing on one side will solve that problem.

I am using a Sailor Professional Gear EF Nib in case it's important.

Also, I'm staying in Singapore, so paper that's available off the shelf here would be ideal.

Cheers,

Landel

Take a look at Clairefontaine Triomphe. It's a bit thin, but the paper is very good, silky smooth, and the ruling is at about 7mm.

I sometimes use Clairefontaine Triomphe, which is pretty good, as Daosus has described.

Alternatively, I use G Lalo with a guide sheet underneath. It shows through the paper enough that you can see the lines.

I second the suggestion of a nice unlined stationary with a guidesheet underneath. It opens up a whole world of possibilities.

Clairefontaine Triomphe is exceptionally smooth and luxurious to write on. It has no watermark, however. You can buy it lined or unlined.

I have had problems finding this product with one of the reputable US online suppliers - any clues?

Edit: OK - have located at Pendemonium - was confusing with a different grade (loose leaf A4 and A5).

Hi Landel,

You should use unlined but good quality paper with a ruled lines guide page underneath. I agree with others here, it looks better without the ruled lines.

1) Maruman Report Pad P153 B5 size - from Kinokuniya at Liang Court (thin , white , unlined , comes with ruled page guidepage to lay underneath)

2) Visit Fancy Paper - diagonally across Bras Basah Complex (paper merchant selling all kinds of paper - no doubt you will find what you need there. You can even buy loose sheets )

3) Visit Art Friend at Bras Basah Complex (look for Herlitz brand writing pad, they have a range that is hammer embossed and deckled edge. Another series is the Linen texture. Both plain but pure white, you can lay a guidepage underneath. Very smooth and thin but no bleedthru nor feathering. Seems this stock is dwindling, my guess is they are stopping import of this range of stationery.)

4) Conqueror series of paper - I use these. They are high quality and good enough. Available in Art Friend, Fancy paper, Popular - all in Bras Basah Cmplx and vicinity. Sell in packs of 100shts of assorted tints. Matching envelopes too.

I use Crane. SKU is CH3186. Not really smooth but I like it. It is 6-3/8"x 8-1/2". One problem is that you only get 20 sheets and 20 envelopes. I tend to write 2 pages so i ahve a lot fo extra envelopes laying around. I have bought Crane 32# Premium Weight paper, printed lines on it and cut it to size myself.

I use a Montblanc Starwalker with a F nib. Sometimes I use the companion rollerball. Hope this helps.
