Wow, thanks guys. Nice words for a pretty old review. BTW that green thing is Jade. It is carved out of a single piece of jade, but the ball inside moves freely in the larger one.

My 91 year old father got it in China about five years ago when he was 'only' 86.

And yes, I still love my Nakayas.

This is REALLY off topic, but I did this review 4 years ago when I was in a different house (with a different wife but that's another story..).

What I want to know is; what are the flowers that I photographed with the two Nakayas?

I loved these flowers, but now I can't find them, and I don't remember what they are called.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Doug,

I think the flowers are called "Cocks Comb" as in the top of a roosters head. I used to grow them myself when I had a yard. Now apartment living gives me no yard to tend.

I love your Nakaya's. But I just have to keep drooling every time I see the Nakaya! Heck, I hadn't even noticed this was originally started in 2008. Has the finish varied any over the years with use. I have heard that natural oils of the hands can cause a slight change of the colors with long term (years) use?

Congratulations on yours!

Thanks. I have so many pens that these don't get the use they should. And I really prefer the nib on the Piccolo over the Decapod. I don't notice any of the changes that are supposed to happen with the urushi, especially with the Decapod.

I don't remember them being called that (the flowers). I seem to remember a different name, but I just can't recall it.

Was it Celosia? Looks like a Plumbed Cockscomb to me too.

I was going through some of my old reviews and I noticed the member Phaltho. What happened to her? She had some of the most amazing reviews and photographs I have seen on FPN.

My Decapod Cigar AKA Temenuri arrived from Classic Pens today and is gorgeous. The nib is Medium "Soft" and is perfect!

A Piccolo in Heki Temenuri is next!

I just can't believe you used to be able to get a brand new Nakaya pen for $250. It has more then doubled in price in less then 10 years.

Was just thinking that myself as I perused this thread. :)

That is the only reason I picked up the Piccolo back then. I'm glad I did; it is my favorite Nakaya.

Whoa, flashback.

I'm still using my solid black Piccolo, meaning that it's inked and in rotation with two other Piccolos and a Naka-ai (and a few not-Nakayas). They are amazing and beautiful - and durable - pens.

The Piccolo will be my next Nakaya. Can't decide on finish (sky color, orange, or black*?) but will probably ask John M. to regrind a F into a CI.

*I have a Portable in Kuro-Tamenuri and a Naka-ai in Unpolished Shu and would like something different. Don't know if the orange or black will be different enough, nor if I will like the sky color in person. We'll see...

It's the different beautiful finishes or colors that make having only one (or two) Nakayas so difficult.

I have my favorites: unpolished shu, kuro, heki, aka, and the shiro (Negoro style, the "broken" finish). If I had known how much I would love the Piccolo, my first would have been kuro, not solid black. But I didn't know. (Sad voice): I didn't know.

Lisa,

Just sell that sucker. You might have one or two interested parties on FPN for a 'plain old' black Piccolo.

I have to say that I have a burlwood Nakaya that has a flex fine nib and it really doesn't speak to me. The Decapod and the Piccolo have aged gracefully and were well worth the money.

I have spent the last few years since 2008 collecting other brands (I have a Conid on order) but I am starting to take a look at my next Nakaya.
