Private Reserve:Comparison

Recently i have purchased three Private Reserve inks: Black Cherry,Fiesta Red and Naples Blue. I really like all three colors!! First the Fiesta Red.

I like the hue of this red a lot. I have used it in four different pens to great satisfaction. I find it a very smooth flowing ink that did better in my Signum than in the other three pens. Also it worked delightfully with 20 and 18 pound standard pulp paper with no cotton content. the 25% cotton paper did bring out a slightly richer hue but tended to spread a little bit. The example of this color on #20 paper is reproduced below with the help of my Nikon D50. Hopefully it looks ok on the computer.

Next was Private Reserve's "Black Cherry". More of a red/black in my opinion, i liked this color for general correspondance. Easy to read and an ink that flowed well in all my pens. It also didn't spread on 25% cotton as much as the Fiesta Red did. Also dried faster than the others. All of the inks i purchased were bottled, not cartridges.

Finally, the most vibrant of the three colors, "Naples Blue". My wife really liked this one as did i for a bit of brightning!!In the four pens i tried it in (Signum Nova,Visconti Van Gogh,Danitrio Alphaplus and Conklin Glider)flow was nice and produced an even wet line. Seemed to flow best in my Danitrio though. The Conklin did well too with it's steel nib. It seemed the best of the Private Reserve blues for my taste.Since i'm new to this,i have not tried the other ink brands except Parker and Pelikan.

Below is a sample page of the colors and an uneven, rushed example of my handwriting(block)style. I really can write better when time is of no concern!! Hehe. But with practice i will get better!!

Hope this review helps someone out there!!If not, at least it was fun writing it !!

Great info here and accurate color scans, Naples Blue is one of my favorite PR colors, for blues it is Naples and Blue Suede these are two amazing colors.

You picked up some of my favorite PR inks, if you like Naples, try out Daphne, and Blue Suede.

Don't change your it's very nice and has character. It would be sad if everyone had the same style of writing or you couldn't tell it from a font :D

I don't have any plans to try out Private Reserve ink any time soon, but I've got to say that I do like your handwriting.

Real nice colors Handlebar. I'll echo the consensus and say great handwriting! I like to draw cartoons and what not, but I'm lacking in the lettering department.

Paractice, practice, practice. :)

How can you tell when you're out of invisible ink?

Carrie,

I use PR DC Blue in one of my fine nib 61s, you should give it a go, wonderful colour and flow.

Do you mean to say that I need to invest in a another P61 to try out that ink :D I was hoping that the 61 I'd just bought would be an aerometric filler, but it's another capillary filler, so I'll just be sticking to one ink colour in it. I was thinking Herbin Lie de The.

Hi,

Carrie, If you don't want the capillary-filler, I might want it.

Jim, It looks like you just got some nice inks!
