Slim Pilot Converters

Hello,

I've recently seen a small Pilot Birdie over at a friend's house the other day. It's a cute little pen with the smallest of nibs I've seen. But what strikes me is the size of the converter. It looks like a standard CON-20 converter but much smaller in diameter that what you will find.

So I was wondering, does anyone have any pictures or information on these slim Pilot converters? How long were they available? Are they still being made or hard to get?

Thanks reading this,

Shamouti

Hi,

The Birdie uses the con-20 converter supposedly. Do you have pictures? To my knowledge, Pilot has made 4 converter types, one for the double spare pens, one for short or slim pens, one with a piston, and a pump type. (con-20wa, con-20, con-50, and con-70 respectively.

What I will do is meet my friend on Wednesday and I'll see if I can put up some pictures and dimensions for you. It is significantly slimmer than the CON-20, that's for sure.

Thanks,

Here is a picture of the slim Pilot Converter.

As you will notice with the picture, it's narrower in diameter than the standard CON-20. Apparently, when I was checking out the Pilot Birdie, since it's so small, cute, and nice for your checkbook, it fits in any Pilot fountain pen, although the interior color is the same light baby blue as the CON-20.

If you like to take the picture to blow it up for a closer look. I apologize if the picture isn't as clear as I would like, but I think you might have an idea of what I mean.

Neat huh?

Hi,

That's interesting! What does it say on the pressbar of that converter?

The Birdie takes a CON-20 or regular Pilot cartridge. At least all the Birdie models i have seen do, and I have seen quite a few. The slim converter fits the Pilot Eve and Penko. I stock the Penko and have had the Eve a few times. Likely there are some other less common Pilot models that take the slim converter. They are usually quite hard to find. They are a good converter, just small so they don't hold much ink. Cheers, BOB

Hi Bob,

I was told this converter was called the Penko, and actually have been looking for more similar to this. Does Pilot make these converters any more? I've never heard of the Eve before. Do you have any information or pictures of what they looked like? That would be quite interesting to find out!

Thanks,

Hi there,

When I looked at the converter, two things popped right out at me:

The color inside the converter was blue, but as far as I know, and I might be mistaken about this, the converter also came in a reddish-pink color as well.

The squeeze bar, ala CON-20, read PILOT.

It's a compatible converter I think any Pilot pen can use. It's with the slimmer Pilot pens, such as the Birdie, that this converter usually is with. Is there any posts about some of the slimmer Pilot pens on FPN? Has there been any pictures of them too?

Another question; did Pilot ever make any pens with aerometric-type permanent converters that cannot be removed?

Thanks,

Shamouti

Hi,

Yes, they did. I have seen them on some pens. But then, you don't call them converters.

Hi, Yes, it's the Penko converter and they are no longer made. The Eve looks a bit like a Penko but tends to have girlie colors and sometimes flower designs. Clip is a little different too. I don't have any now and didn't keep the photos. Cheers, BOB

Sounds like the Eve and Penko pens might call for a new topic! :)

Where can one find information on these pens?
