Admiral Chester W. Nimitz did sign the surrender document with a Parker "51" pen. The pen had been given to him by Y. C. Woo, Executive Director of the Bank of Canton, shortly after December 7, 1941. At that time Woo told Nimitz, "When you have defeated Japan, you can sign the Peace Treaty with it." Nimitz did and then returned the "51" to Woo with a photograph of his signing the document and a personal letter. Photographs of these are in David Shepherd's book on the Parker "51."

In a few days time, I am going to be posting up picture

of the pen belonging to Ho Chih Minh, and also,

photos of a set of pens used to sign the articles of

American and French un-involvement in Vietnam.

I took photos while at a museum in Hanoi, and I must

say, those are real beauties! A pity they are capped,

but I bet you they are fountain pens, because there

was an inkwell next to one of the pens in the exhibit...
