Wow, the Skeleton 333 is the nicest FP I have ever seen. How much would one of those cost?

Hi Vicente, the Skeleton 333 It cost from MB boutiques about 7500 euros and it was produced in 2001. But, since I did't have the chance to buy it from a MB boutique , I bought it later from a pen collector in much higher price.

Best regards

Georges, let me guess... you like the 149! I wish you to get one of the earlier ones (with the 2 silver cap bands) and many others with vintage nibs and different nib grades. I have a feeling it will be hard for you to like a pen better than the 149. When did you see or write with your first 149?

ma0ca, your collection is impressive indeed. Modern clean designs with white trim. I can't help but think that you see a lot of sun and maybe also too many things from the past, when I look at your collection. What's with the Dickens though? It feels a bit out of place there and it is probably calling for the Medici and the Proust to keep it company.

ma0ca-

I love the Skeleton 333. I had an opportunity to buy one years ago...and passed on it. I still regret it.

Hi, RedRob. You are right. I am a new as pen collector so I did't have the opportunity to buy the Proust or Medici. In fact I started MB pen collection since 2006. To be honest, I would like to own Jules Verne (FP), Marcel Proust (FP) and Agatha Christie Silver (FP). At the moment I can buy Jules Verne in a resonable price. As far as it concern Proust and Christie both are sold overpriced.

I have seen my first 149 in a pawn shop in dec 2006 baught it for 100€ because of the broken piston filler and had it repaired for 50€. It was stolen from me at work in april 2007. :crybaby:  It was a 1977 MB 149 with a fine semi flex/semi firm nib. I bought the same pen I had before in march 2008 but with a better nib. I don't need too many 149s, I already have three:

a 1966 with a full flexible medium oblique nib, a 1977 with a flexible medium broad nib and a 1977 with a fine/extra fine flexible nib. I don't nib BB or OBB. I have all what I need in MBs, and it is out of question that I spend money on limited editions. I have other pen purchases I have planned. My 1977 MB 149 fine nib is my favorite user/daily writer, it is functional and it allows me fast writing.

"A pen collection is like a poem anthology or a bouquet of flowers... the selection is as interesting as the individual items themselves. It may say something about your past, your taste or your personality"

It may be vulgar and tasteless to say it, in such company, but it just may also say something about the size of your bank balance

Yeah, my bank balance would be a lot higher if I didn't have all my MBs, but then I wouldn't have anything to look at but bank statements...and they are pretty boring.

Hi rogerb, I don't really agree with you. Sometimes it is true what you have mentioned. But this is not always the case. For instance, I can assure you that I am not rich. In fact, I am teacher in a secondary school in my country. So I get an average salary. Furthermore I don't have extra incomes. But, I prefer to spend all my savings in pen collections. I really try to avoid to spend money on expensive cloths etc. It is my passion. I really believe that most of us come obtain a very stunning pen collection provided that they save their money for this purpose.

Well, that's the root of our difference, here, I suppose..... I cannot envisage collecting anything simply for the sake of owning it (although I admit to having a few pictures and plates decorating the walls of my home!).

I have never really been 'a collector'...... but we are all different.

To me a fountain pen is for writing with...if it happens to write easily and to look beautiful that is a bonus.

I (and my late wife) have raised three daughters, taken them on overseas holidays, and put them through university.

We regarded that as a better use for our relatively modest incomes....we just couldn't have done it and had an expensive collection of artefacts.

It's about individual resources and priorities.

Now that I only really have myself to consider, these have changed somewhat and I am able to have a few pens....all different, with which to write, in different styles and colours, to my friends and acquaintances. It's just a minor bit of self-indulgence!

Each to his/her own..

Best regards

Dear Roger, under these circumstances I agree with you. I believe that first priority is ones family. Of course I did't say that one should collect pens. And I have never said that it is the best thing that one should do. I just wanted to say that there are people that may prefer to spend their money (with an average salary) to cloths, electrical equipments, cars etc and then desire to have a stunning pen collection. This is obviously impossible. I am telling all these because I know personaly such cases. I appologise if you misunderstand me.

Well, I use many of my pens, but all of them are a collection...a grouping of things one OWNS to enjoy those related items. I enjoy all of my MB13x series, my MB14x series, and my MB14x Masterpiece series. I OWN them all and I enjoy them.

I also OWN all the current MB Writer's Series and all of the four MB Dragon LEs (Imerial, Golden 2000, Qing, Meissen). I don't use many of these, but I OWN them, I immensely enjoy them all.

They are part of my collection.

Of course, so are all of the 146s and 149s in various nib sizes that I use every day.

Eric

PS, I have an average American bank account.

Hi Roger, I don't think this is true either, I enjoy the Montblanc brand as well as many others, and I don't have an endless bankroll. I think that saying something like this is a little offensive.

I personally know I will never own a Montblanc Skeleton 333, but I appreciate someone sharing their pictures, and I thought thats what this web site was all about. Sharing our excitement and shared interests in writing instruments. Not, comparing bankrolls...

Though, everyone has their opinion about pens, and what he/she should spend on them, your comment does not really contribute to this forum. I feel it just adds a negative presence that was not there.

Just my opinion...

B

No apology needed...except perhaps from me for teasing you a bit :)

It was meant to be a slightly tongue-in-cheek response to seeing collections whose total value make the imagination boggle, and which would be beyond those of us with such conflicting priorities and very limited resources.

I liked georges z's collection.... very neat & practical!

Kind regards
