A pen collection is like a poem anthology or a bouquet of flowers... the selection is as interesting as the individual items themselves. It may say something about your past, your taste or your personality.

Here's my collection so far. Please show us yours. I'd be very curious to see.

RedRob,

Thanks for sharing your beautiful instruments! :yikes:

Could you please explain the reversible twisting action of the Wilde MP?

Best,

Jeen

Thanks for your comment. The lead comes out when twisting the black knob one way and goes back in when twisting in the oposite direction. A smooth click-less continuous motion, one way or the other. I've only seen this click-less mechanism on pencils before WWII.

Christie FP

Yes, I think the modern Parker Duofold pencils have the same "vintage" mechanism (always wanted one, but never did get one).

Wow, your Christie the 4810 Edition with vermeille trim and blue sapphires; I don't see those that often.

Nice collection

Thanks for your comment Georges.

Kaisede - your pictures somehow made me realize how interesting the Voltaires are. Darn, one more pen on my list. A gorgeous one at that. I've never seen it in person. I was afraid that they would look too flashy clipped in a pocket and they would be disappointingly simple once they came out of the pocket. Now I notice those nice subtle curves, that engraving on the cap and those refined slim cylindrical proportions. Is the barrel diameter different from the 146?

And BTW the Alexander the Great is one of my favorite Patrons. Wish they had called it Goethe though and that it belonged in the Writers series along with their price-tags. I wonder how Axel would imagine a Goethe pen.

thanks for your kind word, Voltaire's barrel is about the same as 146. it is really close if not same as my Bach. For those who do not know Bach's barrel is actually brown not black. I did not notice it until one day I took the pen to work and saw it under the sun.

I am thinking about getting J.P Morgan can anyone comment on it?

Bryant, your collection looks very sober and elegant. The Charlemagne would certainly fit in, but it has that touch of flamboyance from a middle-age renaissance, which makes it equally masculine and feminine. It is my favorite Patron's after the Medici and looks A LOT better in real life than it does in pictures. For some reason I cannot fathom, the Charlemagne is one of the cheapest Patron's on ebay. I've got mine for 1700 (had to sell 7 FPs!) and I've seen another one priced lower since. As usual, a little patience will save you a few hundred bucks.

Kaisede, the Morgan looks beautiful, luxurious and solid and would definitely be a fancier step up from the last 146 in your post (whose name I don't know). I haven't handled it so I shouldn't comment truly. I suspect that you like that 146 so much, you're wanting more of it without buying a duplicate. All I can say is that I feel the Humboldt would fit better in your collection. Of course it is my one of my favorite Patron's FPs, so I am definitely biased here. Have you seen the Humboldt in the stores lately? The Morgan has a superb barrel, a pleasing flat-top shape and I would probably likeit a lot better if I didn't feel there was a mismatch between cap and barrel, somewhat reminescent of the Dickens fiasco (mind you the Dickens has one of the nicest caps among all the MB LEs). I hope my comments are not too presumptive. After all, you saw the beauty in those Voltaires before I was able to.

Hi redrob you are right about me looking for another metal pen. I have too much resin I need something else for a change. When I went to MB last time and spoke with assistance manager, so happen to also be a pen collector he mention that Morgan is far the best looking pen to him. Same feed back was giving to me last year when I went to altman luggage to pick up my 149. The only down part is that I have never seen the pen in person so more or less can only judge by looking at the picture.

I did see Humboldt and had the chance to hold it. It is a beautiful pen but right now I am more incline to metal. Sir Henry Tate was also on my hit list but I HATE cartridge fill pens. So there goes that pen.

Voltaire was my first big purchase after college my first pay check and some went to this pen. It is hard for me to describe why did I fall in love with Voltaire but when I visited MB store in NYC they gave me a catalog of all the writer series and for some unknown reason I said to myself if only I can find this pen I will buy it in a heart beat.

Thanks for your kind words... I love your collection as well.

I will keep my eyes open for one on Ebay... (I really want a Bach, first, but only found one in a Broad nib)

If I get one it will be my most expensive pen yet! Funny, when I fist started collecting, I never would have thought I would even spend more than a couple hundred dollars... :headsmack:

I love the Bach because the color combination, dark brown resin with orange cap, is out of ordinary for MB. I do not think MB had made anything similar after the Bach.

Kaisede, as a metal pen, the Morgan is definitley second to none (except maybe the Medici). I hope you get one soon, because I'd love to read your comments and see some pictures. I agree with you 100% on C/C pens... particularly when they are prone to rusting as the Boheme and its derivatives. I consider C/C pens above $150-200 to be somewhat dishonest in the bang for the buck dept. I particularly like the design on the Pharaoh by Richard Binder or the Dupont Medici, but I simply cannot justify spending anywhere close to that kind of money on a C/C pen. C/C belong on school pens... the kind you souldn't worry about losing or abusing.

Isn't the Bach FP the reverse of the Hemingway? The brown and coral orange go great together indeed. What do you think of the Bach vs Schiller contest?

Bryant, the FP marketing is purposedly done to bring the customer in pricier brackets than he expected. Why wasn't the Mozart in the Artisan Ltd series http://www.fountainpen.de/limited-artisan-mozart.htm marketed in the Patron's series instead (at 1/4 of the price)? It won't be long before we consider crossing the $5000 , then the $10000 mark, then... (God forbid). Who would've thought a few years ago we would cross the $1000 line for a pen? Wasn't that insane? And yet they are so beautiful...

Hello RedRob,

most of my pens are old pens, here are some of my older pens.

All my modern pens are in the box and sealed, when I am older, I will use the modern pens, then they are old too.

kind regards
