Speaking of Oxfords

I've seen a fairish number of Oxfords, but for one reason or another I've photographed only these two, a relatively early one and one from somewhat later:

It's interesting, especially with these two pens in your hand, to observe the deterioration of quality and the diminution of nib size.

I just today picked up from an antique mall gray/greenish version of the Oxford like the lower one in Richard's post above. This nib is small (due to the depression?) and has a "2" on the nib. It has some flex to it.

According to this post https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/in...showtopic=56790 the Oxford is called a Wahl "sub-brand" and was introduced in 1931 along with the Doric. It doesn't have the quality of a Doric I own, but still seems to be a nice vintage pen.

Now if I can just get it apart & replace the sac. It seems to me I've read that Wahl's plastic, at least on the Dorics, is somewhat brittle?

I just finished working on the dark red marble Oxford this weekend and here is my picture from page 1 of this post, updated to include this pen. What other colors are there for this model? For reference, all have Warranted No. 3 nibs.

I have a handful of original unused Select-o-point nib units in original glass vials marked Wahl Oxford, so I think they are correct.

Yeah, I have been coming around to your point of view about the Select-o-Points being OEM parts for Wahl Oxfords. OTOH, it is possible that a replacement nib would be marked for the Wahl Oxford by any after-market parts maker, so it is not so much the unused ones in the vials marked Wahl Oxford that is making it for me as much as the shear number of very newish or "never used" pens that keep showing up with these Select-O-Point nibs. Too bad that the Wahl-Oxford adverts I have seen so far or the circulars by Eversharp for Oxfords do not come right out and say "and with the Select-O-Point Nib". That would be too easy. Just keep wondering why there are plenty of Wahl Oxford pens with Wahl Oxford nibs and yet there are these Select-O-Points?

In this page of 1942's Spiegel catalogue there is a mention about an Eversharp Selecto Point Pen, selling for $1 (the F letter in the list). The pen looks like an Oxford, and the advert shows that Eversharp sold in shops this cheap pens with Selecto Point nibs.

Thanks to Greg Koos for pointing out this resource.
