What's Your Favorite Green?

Hey folks,

I really like green inks, but haven't owned anything except for Pelikan Brilliant Green until now - and the Pelikan is a bit too bright and Christmassy for me. I got a bottle of PR Sherwood Green at the Atlanta show and I like the color but the drying and flow characteristics are not what I'm looking for (slow drying, heavy flow).

However, I just received a bottle of Noodler's Marine Green from Pendemonium and it is almost exactly what I've been looking for! It is a nice medium green with good shading and eternal properties that dries quickly to boot! Eureka!

Let's hear about some of your favorites.

Best,

Summer Greer

I like Quink Green and Diamine Woodland. Diamine Emerald is also nice, but much lighter than the other two I mentioned.

Dennis Lively ("The Pen Den") blends a nice green ink that has more of a vintage feel. I have that and Sherwood Forest as my greens. Sherwood works better in fine nib pens because of the drying issues...

Diamine Emerald is my favorite green ink but it is certainly different from one pen to another. The more narrow the nib, the darker it looks though it still gives nice shading from all of my pens. Last night I had it in a Pilot Custom 98 and it looked very dark indeed.

J. Herbin Vert Empire, Stipula Moss Green and Noodler's Army Green are my other favorites.

Been using Omas Green for the last couple of weeks. Bright green, very Spring-like, great shading in a wet, wide nib. Dries really quickly. Love it.

I like different greens for different reasons:-

- Lamy Green is my standard bright green. This is my most "prototypical" green ink and it has excellent flow and shading properties.

- Noodlers Squetegue for a very dark green - suitable for work documents and other conservative writing. It is even more interesting when slightly diluted, as this brings out the blue-grey tones rather more, giving it a bit of a vintage feel.

- Diamine Steel Blue, because it is almost the only true turquoise green on the market - and I am very fond of turquoise as well as green...

- Herbin Vert Pré, because it has a wonderful joyous springtime/summertime feel to it, even though it is too pale for a lot of purposes.

I like Diamine Emerald. You won't find this ink as 'christmassy' as the Pelikan Brilliant Green. The Diamine Emerald is way more conservative and subdued: nice 'faded' look and good shading. If Pelikan Brilliant Green is James Dean, then Diamine Emerald is Henry Fonda. Both are great in their own right.

My favourite pens:

Pelikan M200 Demo / translucent red / medium nibstroke

Lamy 2000 / black / oblique medium nibstroke

Pilot Vanishing Point / yellow / medium nibstroke

I love green! It's my favourite colour. :)

Green inks I enjoy are:

Diamine Emerald (I will forever be in debt to Margana for this one - based on scans I had decided it was boring, but in a writing sample it was perfection!)

Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün

Stipula Verde Muschiato

Montblanc Racing Green

Noodler's Zhivago (Greenish-Black)

I hope to add Sailor Green to my collection soon.

Rohrer & Klingner Smaragdgrün is also a nice vivid medium emerald green - very similar to the old Pelikan "Light Green" (which was a completely different ink to the modern Pelikan "Brilliant Green"). I use R&K Smaragdgrün and Fernambuk as my hard copy editing inks.

Most definitely Diamine Woodland Green. Sherwood Green is a close second. I am anxiously awaiting the PR Ebony Green reviews to appear on the site.

My current favorite green is MB Racing Green. It's a deep green, almost black with shades of green, depending on the pen/paper combo. Over the last month or so it's become my color of choice. It dries fairly quickly and looks very striking.

I like the colour of PR Sherwood, but unfortunately it's either too slow drying (normal), or bleeding like crazy (quick dry). I really like MB Racing green, and I have just received R&K Alt gold gruen. But while i like the colour, it's not something for everyday use. I also think it's better on paper that's not bright white, but I haven't tried this yet.

So currently, MB Racing Green is definitely my favourite. Looking back at notes from a couple of weeks ago (when I was using my M620 Berlin Medium Italic with MB Racing green), I really like the colour, not eye-popping bright but with enough contrast.

Regards,

Jarno.
