Announcing the Official Authorized Sheaffer Vintage Pen Repair Centers

We are pleased to announce that we have selected what we believe are the finest repair centers in the USA to repair Vintage Sheaffer Writing Instruments.
The determination of the select Authorized Repair Centers came after much research and personal meetings with each repair service. The Authorized Sheaffer
Repair Service Centers will be equipped to repair most Vintage Sheaffer Pens. The availibility of vintage parts will determine what can and cannot be repaired.
The service centers will handle any non-warranty repair or servicing of Sheaffer Pens that were manufactured prior to 1988. Certain pens, like Targa, that were
manufactured prior to and after 1988 and are owned by the original owner may be sent to Hampton-Haddon for warranty repair or service.
IF you have a Sheaffer pen that requires warranty service (good for the original owner of the pen only) it will be handled in Philadelphia by Hampton-Haddon (the US Distributor of Sheaffer).
Certain pens that are under warranty that do not have parts available to complete a repair will be returned to their owner along with a modern replacement pen of equal value.

With that said, I am pleased to announce the following Official Authorized Sheaffer Vintage Pen Repair Centers.

What does "Authorized" mean in terms of "Vintage" pen repair.

Is Sheaffer still honoring warranty repair of 20+ year old pens?

And if so,only through these repair people?

Was wondering what Richard Binder meant when he said he was an "Authorized Repair Center" in his blog yesterday...

Authorized as in we (Hampton-Haddon) are supplying them with factory parts to do non-warranty vintage repairs.

Warrantable work will be done at Hampton-Haddon IF the parts are available and IF the sent is a pen repair that

fits the definition of a warrantable repair. Pens that cannot be repaired under warranty (i.e. no parts available)

will be replaced with a modern and available equivalent AND the original pen will be returned to the original owner.

If the consumer wants their returned and replaced pen repaired we recommend that they choose one of the factory parts supplied

repair centers to do the repair work but they will have to pay for the repair. The price for the repairs is set by the repair center.

Modern (post 1988) non-warrantable work will also be done at Hampton-Haddon in the form of parts replacement or simple repairs.

There is a $50.00 minimum charge for all non-warranty work.

This is great news!

Will this service be available for European Sheaffer owners/users as well?

I know that Sheaffer service Germany is building up right now but they don't have that many spare parts for older (pre 1990s/2000s) pens.

Also I have been wondering about Sheaffer service UK; are they connected with Sheaffer service in the US at all?

I really appreciate your efforts in keeping Sheaffer's service available as it used to be one of the best (especially talking about when Sheaffer had its own distribution in Germany until the late 1990's).

Michael-

Sheaffer service in the UK is not connected with the US service.

I believe that all of your repairs for Europe will go to Stone Marketing in the UK. I am not sure how much in parts Simon has received there if at all.

I know that most of their warranty work is either parts replacement or exchange for new (with the return of your old pen to you). Don't take this as

100% though, you should contact Stone Marketing and ask them directly. If you do need a vintage pen repaired please feel free to contact one of the

four people I listed above for non-warranty service.

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I just received a replacement section (the original was cracked) for my Sheaffer Nostalgia from Stone Marketing (they also included the old nib); it took some time but finally I'm very happy with this service :-)

Cheers

Next question: how old does something have to be before it's considered vintage?

I emailed Hampton Hadden about a Balance II cracked cap repair and got a generic reply. I'd really rather not send it there if there's no stock to replace it (but would instead prefer to send it to get repaired).

The original post states that prior to 1988 is considered as vintage.

I believe the date only affects non-warranty work.

If your Balance II was manufactured prior to 1988 you can send it to HH for warranty work. If they have the parts they will repair it. If not, they will send you a modern replacement and your old pen (not repaired of course). You can then try one of the authorized centers. They may have parts from old pens that are used as parts pens or other sources that HH doesn't have. But you ill have to pay for the repair even if it wold have been consiered warrantable.

Also, warranty work is only available to the original owner.

At least that's how I understand the original post. Hope that helps.

Does someone have the address for Hampton Hadden? I purchased a NOS gold-fluted Targa which leaks like a sieve. I am seriously disappointed in the quality of this pen.
