The triangular grip doesn't seem to be for everyone, alas. I find them to be pretty darn comfortable.

I almost got the charcoal, but I'm loathe to buy black pens. They're so.. plain. So instead, I got a Noodler's Ahab in Crow, and put a Monteverde black fine nib in as an "all black pen" alternative. The subtle silver swirl was just enough to counter the plainness. I wish I'd gotten the 1.1mm stub instead but it does write nicely. It would be really nice if the black Monteverde nibs came in extra fine, like all my Lamys seem to be. xD (The blue green has become my favorite of the bunch.)

I scored a Pilot Custom 742 for $57. It arrived looking very sad, dirty and uncared for: scratched and clogged with ink. Two days of soaking cleared out the blue black ink. Careful polishing with Simichrome brought some life to it. A second and very light polishing session brought some sparkle to the poor thing.

Now, it looks splendid. Above, all it is a superb writer, with a fabulous M nib.

At some point 3 Parker Slimfolds will arrive from the UK. Two Sheaffer Vac fills with Triumph nibs are due back after repairs. Enough pens. Several others need repair.

Now for some more ink and for the first time arranging proper storage & display.

Waiting on a Pelikan M250 blue marbled with the nib-on-a-chain in place of the cap clip. Should be here tomorrow

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

I am waiting for this copper beauty so I can pair it with Noodler's Austrian Roses ink.

Once again I'm reminded how warped perspective can be on the internet. I'm fully aware when I look at pictures of pens that we're seeing nibs & such many times larger than reality, but I was blown away by just how small a Valiant is. Triumph nibs in particular always seem so big to me in pics.

How true. (I presume you are referring to a 1940's "thick model" Sheaffer's Valiant/Autograph with a Triumph conical nib.) When I hand someone a thick model Valiant who has never seen one in person before, I just stand back and watch the reaction.

At first it seems there is shock and/or puzzlement at how small the body of the pen is when first uncapped. Then the cap is posted and writing ensues - followed by an ear-to-ear grin :P

I suppose the motto is: At first don't be so critical of what just came in the mail - give it a chance.

Valiant TM as it turns out. I had to look up dimensions, lacking another for reference.

I actually like it more for being smaller than I expected. Now the pain is waiting for the Tuckaway Valiant & what turns out to have been an Imperial IV touchdown (didn't notice the plunger in the pic until today) so I can fix them up together.

Expecting a smoke/maroon, no clip, no nib Franklin Christoph model # 03, the "Iterum".

I've two nib-sets that could be installed into this new pen: a very smooth ss. F-C 1.1mm factory stub or a new ss. three-tine music nib.

I plan to get another unadorned, two-tone 18 JoWo factory stub to be installed into my Edison Pearl.

Not waiting on any pens, but I'm waiting on three bottles of iroshizuku.

I ordered asa-gao, yama-budo, and a smokey grey-blue that I can't remember the name of now.
