What pen are you waiting for in the mail?

This is going to be a long painful wait. My Pilot 823 is coming back after getting tuned by Minuskin. And I ordered a Pelikan M1000 with broad nib from Binder that is coming in as well. Now I play the mail lottery - will it take 1 week (not likely anymore), 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, or more?

I have an X-Pen Podium coming. (This is the second time I've ordered from the seller and it's NOT the seller's fault, but I can't figure out why the shipping takes so long.) I ordered it because I wanted a low-end but decent pen that would allow me to experiment with all kinds of different ink colors from cartridges. There were a couple good reviews of the X-Pen on FPN; I'm not expecting a stellar pen, but a fairly reliable one. I am still new to the fountain pen world, but I am getting a lot of writing done, in part because writing with one feels so good. My Parker "51" has done the bulk of the work, but I also like my Nussbaum pen and I like the idea of saving the "51" for "good" stuff I'm writing.

I was using a Jinhao 126 for marking student papers. I really liked it, but the nib bent when I dropped it. I'm thinking about trying to make some kinda stub out of the thing.

In the meantime, I was going to order another 126 ($8 shipped from an Amazon seller, and I have a giftcard). I ended up ordering...

Hero 9296 (extra fine, it's supposed to be an "accounting pen" for writing in ledgers. I'm hoping it'll be fine enough to work well in a gradebook)

Hero 9288 (basically as a replacement for my 126. Light blue color, hooded nib)

Parker Vector in red (another replacement for the 126, it was a good price, and I'm hoping it'll be the surefire in case the Hero 9288 doesn't write well. If only it was a hooded nib...)

Plus a few assorted supplies.

I've been using the Ahab for a few days and it's a pretty good pen, it seems to write with a nice, wet, fluid line with plenty of line variation. I haven't noticed any skips. The flex nib, maybe not the smoothest nib in my collection, is good to work with. I've tried two Noodler's inks, the Empire Red and Ganges Blue. Both are gorgeous colours. After reading some differing reviews of Noodler's inks, I was eager to try them, and so far I'm not disappointed. I'll certainly be experimenting with other Noodler's ink in the future.

Have some fun and mod the nib! i did it and it's my favorite pen now. Look for the Flex my Mod on this forum and see how it's done. You will probably have to carve up the feed as well, but it's an easy fix and the result is very worth it. Like a super flex for a very small amount of money. Noodler's is great!

I'm still waiting for my Jinhao X750, but another few chinese cheapies have been added to the list. I was browsing pens to see if I could find a medium nibbed version of my Hero 382. When my wife looked over my shoulder and pretty much fell in love with a blue Hero 6081. I'd promised her to buy her a pen she liked and that was the one she wanted. I guess I got lucky with her liking such a cheap pen. Now let's hope it will be a good writer. But as pretty much all sales for a single Hero 6081 were for "random colour", I had to buy a set of 2 with a black and a blue version, so I'll have one for myself as well. And at least there's twice the change to get a good writing one, she'll get the best nib of the two.

I ordered another cheapie as well, I wanted something different than a black pen, so I ordered a blue Kaigelu 356, as I read some positive experiences with this model by the good folks of the internet.

The Jinhao arrived yesterday. Insane how big that nib is, writes baby bottom smooth and very wet.

So now the wait is for the 2 Hero and the Kaigelu pens.

And I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a TWSBI Vac 700 soon, but I'm still in doubt about the colour.

... Never underestimate the power of human stupidity ...
