I'm waiting for a Huashilai 8, which has only to my knowledge been mentioned on FPN about twice.

IMHO I think it looks like a poor man's Duofold with a dash of Pelikan. It also only cost £4.50($8)(Not Affiliated, etc).

The sad moment when you actually have to explain what a fountain pen is to somebody.

Twsbi 540 Smoke, and I am very eager for it! Was on the fence for a long time about which one I wanted. I decided I could use the Smoke one at work and still fly under the radar so to speak... though the amber one was really calling my name.

Now waiting for a grenadilla Graf Von Faber-Castell classic with a broad nib.

I can't keep buying a new GvFC every week but this completes the classic wooden triad so maybe im done for a while.

Why is postage from Canada such a killer? $65usd for a pen box sized package to Australia and it isn't the seller I've paid the same amount on 2 or 3 other occasions with other sellers...

WTB: the following GvF-C classic FPs (pref. B or OB nib) or rollerballs: platinum plated, gold plated, solid sterling silver, ebony anello and gold anello, PM me!

(also interested in most other GvF-C products in general, i.e any writing tools, leather goods, advertising/packaging)

There's a Kaweco Al-Sport en route to my front doorstep, which I plan on getting reground to a fine point, cursive italic. It's destined to be my everyday carry, pocket pen. My TWSBI 540 has developed a few (purely cosmetic) cracks from riding around in my shirt/pant pocket everyday. I can't wait!!!

Further to my last post, does anyone know why so many European pens are s cheap from Canada?

I think your two questions are intertwined Phrenzy.

Canadian shipping is obscene, which leads to fewer interested buyers.

FWIW, it's $15 for economy shipping of a pen sized box within Canada, so $65 to Australia doesn't seem insane.

I'd love to know how Hong Kong sellers can ship overseas (here, or the US) for two or three dollars -- do their governments/postal-services subsidize via cheap shipping?

Cheers, Ted

It's not every day that you get a fountain pen for paying only $2.50 shipping! But that's what's happened to me and all for only following the Fountain Pen Revolution page on Facebook. They seem a really American family who are selling Indian fountain pens in India.

Almost all postal systems are subsidized to some extent but I've often pondered that question, not just about hong kong but also mainland china. Especially as international mailing agreements are set up to pay for part of the cost in the recieving country so it's not like they're saving lots of money on cheap chinese postmen's labour since half the job is completed in Australia or the states or wherever. I've seen and indeed bought items from hong kong off ebay that were 2 or 3 usd including free shipping...where is the money made?! I mean someone has to man the computer, pay for thenlisting, package and transport the item...I don't see how theres any meat n the bone.

As for camadian pens ibe gotten abut half my GvFC collection new from different Canadian sellers and they are consistently cheaper by a significant amount. I can't shake the feeling I'm not catching something that would explain how their able to sell them so cheap and stay business.

I noticed my bottle of black ink was getting low. I ordered another bottle.

I think it will be here in a day or so.

It will be exciting to discover that the new ink is exactly the same as the one I have been using.

The group buy Ahabs have arrived at my friend's address. Not sure if I will be getting a transparent or a blue Ahab (I chose either color depending on what would be available). Will be seeing it on Saturday!
