TWSBI 540 from Goulets

Esterbrook SJ from classifieds

Missed a 51 Aero the other day - saw it pop up the minute the seller put it there, PM'd, then came back later to read that he was only checking emails, not PMs.

Feels bad, but I already have a 51 Vac, though I do need to get it fixed up, since the insides are pretty dirty and the nib doesn't write too well. Still, I was surprised by how nice it felt to hold - when I first saw a pic of one I didn't think too much of it, but now I could probably see myself building a collection of these things as the years go by.

Funnily enough, I only really want to collect 51s and Js now. I had a whole bunch of modern-ish pens on the wishlist that I really liked, and now I don't care for them at all.

A black satin Aurora Ipsilon F. it should come in tomorrow. I'm almost tempted to sit on the porch and read all day so I can tear the box open when the mail man comes by!!!

Conklin Mark Twain Crescent, medium point. I tried it out at a pen fair hosted by The Fountain Pen Shop in Monrovia, CA, and loved it. Fred didn't have it in stock though, so he's ordering it for me.

A repaired Stipula Novecento by Deb Kinney which I hope will make it a new pen. This pen has been nothing but trouble (went back to Italy twice and to two US repair folks), but the aquamarine is so beautiful I can't give it up.

Standard New Dunn Pen from the Binders. It'll be a mid-November treat when it gets here.

Looking for an Omas Arco Verde...the one that got away.

Duke 209.. I'm very excited! I've been eyeing Duke pens for a while and finally got one today. I think the nib on this model looks beautiful. It's gotten very good reviews, so I'm looking forward to receiving it. This will be my fourth purchase since the start of my addiction in late September :P

I found it for $1 + shipping on eBay today.. it's pretty hard to beat that price. (That was my rationalization for spending the money, at least!)

An Aurora, a Hastil if I can go by the photographs, stainless steel, gold-plated steel nib described as broad. I can be happy with a broad nib, although since Aurora nibs are often characterized as running a size narrower than usual for a European pen, what I expect is what I'd call a medium nib. I can be happy either way.

My only other Aurora pen has what's labeled as a medium nib but is narrower than that. If I'm happy with that nib I expect to be happy with something wider. No way of knowing how much wider.

The little joke here is that Aurora's reissue of the Hastil as a limited edition, which happened in 1999 IIRC, would cost me more than $300, whereas buying one of the original 1970-and-after production will bring me a pen at least as well made, a pen that's historically important, and it's less expensive. Far less expensive.

Of course, it's not a postmodern reprise. Those have their place. The Parker 51 Special Edition cost far more than a Parker 51 manufactured back in the day would cost, and it wasn't, technically, as good a pen. Many love it, think it's worth the money, and enjoy owning a Special Edition. Who am I to tell them their pleasure is mistaken? Hastil enthusiasts are almost certainly fewer in number. I can imagine people waiting in line all night for a chance to buy a $500 postmodern Esterbrook.

Nothing too fancy at the moment: I've got a Kaweco Ice Sport in transit. It's the orange one, with a bottle of Noodler's Cayenne and some silicone grease along for the ride. If there are any problems with the eyedropper conversion, it will be vividly apparent.

If I dig the Kaweco, I can see myself going in for the Al Sport before long.
