Diamine Mediterranean Blue review

I was asked on another thread what the Diamine Mediterranean blue was like and so I've included a scan. It seems very similar to the Diamine Florida Blue (the old LE Tropical blue that was) but slightly lighter. Its more of a middle blue than say Waterman South Seas but much lighter and brighter than Diamine WES Imperial Blue.

 

 

 

 

Also attached is a scan of my blue inks for seeing where it is in the spectrum (Mediterranean is the bottom one on the page)

 

 

As you can see I've had a few smudges and spills but it gives you an idea of where in the spectrum of blues it is.

Thanks for the review, scan, and comparisons, Will. In addition to resembling each other, Florida Blue and Mediterranean Blue look very much like Diamine Royal Blue. Any one of the three would be a cheerful color for a dreary day.

 

From your sample it appears that Mediterranean Blue shades better than Florida Blue or would you attribute that more to the Visconti than the ink?

Thanks for the review and scan! The scan (on my monitor) of Diamine Mediterranean Blue looks a lot more like Diamine Washable Blue than Diamine Florida Blue. All appear to have have beautiful shading properties -- but Diamine Florida Blue is more aquamarine in colour, and has more of a turquoise tinge than both Mediterranean Blue and Washable Blue.

I haven't really loaded up the Florida Blue properly in my pen yet - I may well do so today. I am sure that girlie is right - I think that they all have great shading abilities, which is one of the reasons I like the Diamine inks. I'm sure that I get better shading out of the Visconti than say my Phileas - but I haven't really put it to the test - again maybe a thing to do when I have a bit of time.

Recently, I purchased a bottle of Diamine Mediterranean Blue from Pendimonium. Likewise, I have a few bottles of limited edition Tropical Blue from the 2004 Florida Pen Show. Recently, I compared the two and found them to be rather similar, but the Mediterranean Blue is a shade lighter. Moreover, they both have excellent ink flow, and are very smooth to use.

 

I would recommend Diamine Mediterranean Blue to anyone who is looking for a nice bright shade of blue.

ethernautrix, I agree that the Florida blue is a shade lighter (which is the same as the Tropical blue I believe).

 

Jimothy, I must admit I haven't tried it on moleskin. I generally find Diamine quite well behaved even on paper that is not the best quality - I find Private Reserve and Noodlers (though I only have 3!) harder on cheaper paper. But thanks for the advice. This ink and the Florida Blue have definitely grown on me more and more - and I liked them to start with.

thank you for your nice review!

I like to use Mediterranian Blue for it's wonderful shading qualities. There are a lot of colour varieties, depending on inkflow and nibsize. Especially with broad and oblique broad nibs the shading is beautiful. Works with all kinds of paper, but as mentioned before, bleeds through on Moleskinepaper (I tried with all kinds of nibs ).

It looks about the same on my monitor too. I was kinda sorta questioning the Med Blue, that's loaded and going this week by odd coincidence in my Stipula 0.9 stub, but the scan of the WES Imperial, which I use buckets of, is off a tiny bit too. But nonetheless, close.
