Acme Pens and other pens just for looks

Hello everyone,

I have been thinking for a while about posing a question about my favorite pens to look at in my entire collection: the Acme Simpsons rollerballs. I have (finally) gotten all of them except for the newest Homer Peel. I personally love the Simpsons, but I was looking for something special (not action figures) to collect. I then fell in love with the Acme pens. I love how each of the pens places Homer as the subject of a famous piece of art. So, I was just wondering if there are any of you out there who have pens (or whole sets of pens) that you enjoy solely because you like how they look. The Acme pens are perfect for this because a) they are exquisite works of art in themselves and B) they are in general rollerballs (and I do know that you can get a nib for them). Also, I know there will be some detractors out there who say that a pen only has worth if it is a good writer and used and that the only good kind of pen is a fountain pen. I look forward to hearing you comments.

(On a side note, I wish I had a camera to show off my Acme pens. Their designs are magnificent.)

Hey Cody,

I'm also a collector of the Simpsons Limited Edition Acme pens. I currently have the original Simpsons LE, Homer's 15 Minutes, and The Homer Code. Will be getting the others quite soon, have Homerain on order already and trying to order the Homer Peel. After that, just need Homer's Scream, and Homey Litchenstein.

I was thinking of posting a photo of my pens, but going to wait until I get more.

Also, just wanted to add that the Acme fountain pen conversion kit actually has quite a good steel nib. I have written with Acme FP's before, and they're not too bad. (I haven't used my Simpsons editions pens tho).

If your asking whether or not I've purchased pens and kept them strictly because of the way they look yes and no. I have purchased pens based strictly on looks, but if it doesn't write well sooner or later it ends up the way of the marketplace.

Now that being said, i've always admired the acme simpsons collection, so that may be a collection where I don't have a problem keeping them without writing for them. They are some cool pens. I'm glad to hear they write well, I've heard mixed reviews.

This is not a put-down, but I haven't watched a cartoon on the TV for over forty five years. They just don't peg the fun-meter anymore. I once knew a PhD Electrical Engineer (corner office, real glass windows, wooden door with a lock on it) who had to relate everything said to him to an episode of the Simpsons. It got tiresome. We encouraged him to eat lunch with someone else.

I do have a pen that I only look at (mostly). Some years ago, my wife gifted me with a rollerball pen from Levenger. It is a replica of Sir Isaac Newton's walking cane. I very rarely use it because it is extremely heavy and, well, it is a rollerball. It is a real beauty, though. Sometimes, when we are going out, I put it in my pocket and wear it like jewelry. Sometimes I will open its box and just look at it. It makes me feel like Silas Marner with his hoard of gold coins.

I looked at the Acme pens and after seeing the one called Roses I just had to have it. It's a nice rollerball pen and came with the FP conversion kit. I actually like writing with the fountain pen- it's just a tad wet for my liking.

I find that I have to be very careful when perusing the Acme catalogue. While the Simpsons pens come first in my line of wants, they have some incredible designs that are truly works of art. It is very hard not to get caught wanting/buying upwards of 20 of their pens.
