does anybody know where to find oblique dip nibs in singapore?

Art Friend has Bras Besah has them, if these are what you mean. They have a much better dip pen selection than the Takashimaya branch.

Looking to exchange ink samples! Available: Noodler's Bulletproof Black, Noodler's 54th Massachusetts, Noodler's Black Swan in English Roses, Noodler's Bad Belted Kingfisher, Noodler's Operation Overlord Orange

Graceaj, have you tried calligraphy pens/nibs from Manuscript before? I've seen them at Art Friend and they look intriguing, but am confused about which to try. Hoping to dip my toes into calligraphy :thumbup:

Also, does anyone know where I can still get the Pelikan M150 or M200 for reasonable price in Singapore? Art Friend does not have stocks anymore.

Wonder if anyone here interested in these HERE:

Fisher Space Pen

Main Features:

1. Refill uses a thixotropic ink which is semisolid until the shearing action of the rolling ball liquefies it, allowing it to flow only when needed.

2. Each Refill able to write up to 48 kilometers!

3. Tungsten Carbide Ball Tips for virtually indestructible balls.

4. Pen casings made of Brass.

5. Cartridge pressurized with nitrogen so that it doesn't rely on gravity to write, allowing it to write in:

* zero gravity (something that you might never actually get to test )

* upside down

* underwater

* over wet and greasy paper

* at any angle

* in extreme temperature ranges.

I haven't actually tried the Manuscript one before. I bought a cheap >$2 dip pen from the Bras Besah Complex Art Friend. Did you try the BBC Art Friend for the Pelikan M150? I don't think the other branches ever had them. I saw three M150s in the case just last week. They don't mark it as a M150, but its the one with the 'Buy a fountain pen and get a mechanical pencil free' label.

Thanks! I think Art Friend didn't check the stocks properly :headsmack:

BTW, does anyone know where to get the Pilot Varsity/Vpen in Fine? I only saw Medium at Mustafa.

Another question: of all the inks available in Spore, which are considered the wetter ones and which are drier? I saw a list of inks that can be found in Spore once, but can't locate it anymore. Also, it doesn't state which inks can be found at which shops. :embarrassed_smile:

Lastly, where can I get the standard ink cartridges, other than Art Friend's Herlitz? Are there other good and economical ones around? TIA.

FP neebie has lots of questions :D

Pilot V-pen seems only available in M. Bras Besah Popular has them, as well as the Petit1.

For bottled inks, Mustafa has Pelikan, Parker & Lamy inks on the shelf at the stationery section. Aesthetic Bay has Noodler's and I think Private Reserve among others. I've only purchased Noodler's from AB, so I'm not sure about their other inks. Fook Hing has Private Reserve too but their range seems kinda limited. Pelikan tends to be dryer, while Parker and Noodler's are wetter. Noodler's is said to take a long time to dry, but its pretty good on cheap absorbent copier paper.

For standard ink cartridges, you can get the Pelikan ones from Mustafa; $1.50 for a box of six short cartridges.

Since this seems to be the go-to thread for FP stuff in Singapore, just to let anyone who's interested that I've found some Rhodia in the Plaza Singapura Carrefour. A N16 book cost me S$4.65. I don't recall exactly how much exactly Kinokuniya had them for, but I seem to have the impression that it was a fair bit more. Also, Mustafa has a 'new' S$7 Pilot pen, the Pilot Birdie.

Thanks, Gracej for info about the inks! :thumbup:

BTW, does anyone know where I can get a good quality loupe in Singapore, around 10-15X magnification? Art Friend sells a very cheapo one that's really bad. What about micromesh? Is it available here? I know about the nail buffer trip but am wondering about micromesh :)

You can get good quality loupe at South Bridge Road. The shop specialize in jewelry tools.

If you like to keep your nibs from clogging you can also check out their ultrasonic cleaner.

I got my micromesh and custom nibs from Richard Binder. Micromesh is an overkill imho. You get use brown paper instead. The takeaway bags from Burger king is perfect.

AB has the full line of Private Reserve and most other popular ink brands.

Also, when I was in Singapore a few weeks ago, I picked up some Milquerius A4 pads on sale at Kinokuniya for S$2 each, not sure if they have them still.

In rotation:

Pelikan M400 with Pilot Iroshizuku Momiji

Nakaya Kuro-tame Desk Pen with Platinum Blue

Visconti Van Gogh Maxi with Aurora Black

Thank you so much, tankahn. Can you be a little more specific about the exact location? I looked at the Google Map but I'm quite a 'Topo Queen.' :embarrassed_smile:

I tried a brown bag that I had and it seems to have helped a few pens. Thanks for the tip. :)

I know the MPH at Raffles City stocks orange and black cover Rodia of A4 and smaller sizes, but am not sure about the price. Might be a suitable alternative if you can't find what you want at Carrefour.

Using the Indian Temple as landmark. Down the road opposite is the row of shophouses facing the road leading all the way to Maxwell Road Food Centre. Its located at the last few shops.
