Anyone knows the price of Sheaffer Prelude, Parker Sonnet, Waterman Hemisphere in Mustafa? wanted to go down and check but no time at the moment

Anyone with opinions please?

Was checking out the Lami Safari at Mustafa last weekend. It was $47. Same price as Times. Doesn't seem to be cheaper at Mustafa.

Pretty sure that's the Lamy Al-Star(Aluminum), which is around $65 elsewhere if I remember accurately. The Lamy Safari(plastic) is $36 at Mustafa.

Visited Mustafa today. siaoguitar is right; the Safari is $34, Vista is $36, and the Al-Star is $47.

Parker Sonnet Fountain pens in Mustafa start from $80 for a flighter.

In the row of shophouses before Syed Alwi Road, Mustafa occupies a few units. There is another pen counter in there. Mostly same stuff as the other counters, but I spotted a black Pilot Superior but have only seen green ones at the other counters.

Nice. How does it write?

Super smooth man, but it is a M nib and it is ever thicker than my Pilot Tank/Superior M nib, in fact it is the thickest among all my FPs.

Hello everyone!

I have been reading this forum for a long time now, and finally I decided to take the plunge and join! Well, its heartening to know that there are so many fountain pen enthusiasts from Singapore around here. I have had an interest in fountain pens since young; and am especially partial to vintage Parkers. Used to carry a Vac to school though...(though I switched it to a much hardier Lamy safari later on) :P

Hope to share more with you people on FPN soon!

Whenever I visit Uncle Goh at China Square he will have lots of Parker Vacs, 51, Shaeffer Shorkels etc that he will warn me that the filling mechanism is not working.

What a pity cos they look great externally.

Since the pen repair specialist at Bras Basah gone AWOL, is there anyone in SG that can repair such pens ?

Bro, do you think I can get some of his Vac's nib for my vintage parker vacuumatic? It is very scratchy and the 2 parts of the nib seems to be uneven and it pricks paper when used to write....

You might want to try Pengallery.com. I bought a Sailor from them for a really good price and when I had trouble they offered to send it back to Sailor in Japan for me.

Phone calls last just minutes, emails get deleted, but letters live forever.

There's some advice you might find useful here:

http://www.nibs.com/Article6SmoothingAdjusting.htm

Aligning tines is easy to do and a 10x loupe isn't hard to find.

Alternatively, if you're OK with it, you could bring your pen to the next meetup where I or maybe some others could look at it?

Singapore does have quite a number of 3rd Generation (especially Canadian) vacs as well as aero "51"s that pop up in many places. However, currently as far as I know there is no shop offering restoration of Vacs and other vintage pen services here...

On a side note, any of you FPN guys from Singapore remember Mr. Tong (Tak Thong Department Store) which used to be at Blk 5 Beach Road? IMHO it was the best place to be for vintage pens in Singapore until HDB took over the place and forced him to close shop. He was the only person who I knew that could fix the large majority of vintage pens (you should have seen the amount of Vacs he had...) as well as other vintage pens services. I used to frequent the shop prior to its closure; you may have seen me there if you did visit, I was probably the youngest regular customer to visit!

How long ago was that ?

Is he still in operation somewhere else or retired now ?

Would you know where they tend to pop up? I've only heard of them being sold at the China Square flea market, but I can't get away on Sundays.

He closed in 2006. Probably, someone must know about him on FPN! He's probably retired though, he's probably in his mid 80s by now.

As far as I know certain pawnshops do have them (pawned eons ago), but they are mostly tucked away in some back room and will never see daylight more goodness knows how many years. However, currently Fook Hing does have Vacs (albeit priced a bit high) as well as certain shops in Chinatown and Bras Basah (try Ramla Dept. Store on the 2nd floor at Bras Basah; though he mostly deals in numismatics, I did see a few Vacs for sale the last time I went.) It should still be there!
