Hi,

I am currently a student in NTU. I wanted to try fountain pen starting from pilot vpen. Anyone know where to get it? I can't find it in popular.

Steven

Try Popular Bookstore at Bras Basah. You can also buy ink refills. Have fun

Hi guys, a newbie here and my new found hobby got the better of me - I just went down to Mustafa to buy the following:

1 x LAMY Safari Black

5 x Hero 336

1 x Pilot ED Tank

1 x Pilot Birdie

I thought the tank pens are only in medium nib?

:W2FPN:

The Tank pens are available in both Fine and Medium, although the fines were out of stock for quite some time. The Birdie is only available in medium. There should be a sticker on the pen and the nib is marked. The pen counter in Serangoon Plaza (facing the road) definitely has fines available, but I can't speak for the other counters.

THe tank pens are available in Mustaffa, 5th floor, the counter disply may not have them available, but i spoted that there are boxes by the dozen in the shelves right below the display shelves....so i asked if they could find me some fine nibs from those boxes.

I realised now that Japanese Fines are too fine for my taste,.....tho the nibs as superbly smooth....BTW the tank pens can be used with a CON-50 converter.

Yup, they are available at all three pen counters; first floor and stationery department(4th floor) of Mustafa Centre(along Syed Alwi Road), first floor of Serangoon Plaza (facing Serangoon Road). Most of Serangoon Plaza is run by Mustafa, and linked to Mustafa Centre at the third floor, but not open 24 hours. Strangely, the first floor counters are out of the filling instruction sheet, but the stationery department has plenty. Make sure they give you the eyedropper too; the stationery department counter tends to neglect that. You can also buy them by the dozen for $6.50 each ($78 for one box).

For Pilot tank ED pen, there is a small piece of sponge at the other end. You can pull it out with a tweezer, giving yourself additional capacity. I also put in a 4mm steel ball and give the pen a little shake if it have difficulty starting.

How did you get a 30% discount from them ?

When I was there they only offered 15% discount for vp/decimo/fermo

The white section seal can also be pulled out easily to fix in a pilot squeeze converter.

Can the section seal be used in a Pilot Prera to make it an ED then ?

I bilieve the tank shares the same section and nib with Prera and Knight.

Hi, on the Tank pen, the barrel has a seat against which this seal seats. I do not have a Prera so I cannot say if the seal will function.

I hope someone who owns both the pens can chime in.

Best,

Hari

I was quoted 15% off for the VPs when I visited the shop in Feb, but I picked up a Delta which was on sale for 40%. Went again last week for the Sailor demo, saw a sale sign stating 30% off for all VPs and some other brands, not too sure about decimo and fermo. I think the sale is until end Apr if I'm not wrong.

I paid $250.00 for the purple vp, only 20% off, the 30% discount doesn't apply to ltd eds :crybaby:

What did you buy from them so far?

I just received the Knight, so i do happen to have all three pens - for today, yay!

Tested the combinations for all 3 models, and the results are....mid-sections are not interchangeable, but the nibs are. I read from another post that the pilot 78G nibs are also interchangeable with the preras.

The only difference is the plating (gold/rhodium) of the nibs.

Gotta love the pilots cos they turn out such good quality pens whatever the price range.

I think tt32003 means to just remove the plastic insert that helps in forming the seal from the Tank pens, and see if it can fit in the Knight/Prera section to form a similar seal. By the way, any tips on how to remove the nibs; I tried to remove the nib & feed on my Tank, but it wouldn't budge.

Also, anyone know if there is any place locally that stocks a pen with these same nibs in a stub? I would love a Prera, but I have no need for another F or M.

Ahhh, then it is the feed, yes it is interchangeable....

i know speerbob has BB for the 78Gs in this his store, you could probably swap it into the prera.

no afflications blah blah.

Hi graceaj, search ebay for Pilot 78G. It comes in B which is an italic. There are lots of sellers from Hong Kong. Choose one with good reputation. :happyberet: I actually find the 78G nibs to be smoother than the Pilot Tank ones, but the Prera's F is smoother than the 78G's F.

They are the straight pull out type, very easy to remove. With the section screwed tight into the barrel, wrap a 1/2 inch wide strip of rubber around the nib and feed, grip across the flats and pull out firmly with a rocking motion. I use my left hand to hold the barrel and the right to pull the nib and feed out.

Best,

Hari

Thanks I called them too and saved me a trip to Bras Basah.

Went to China Square flea market instead and blew my pen budget for a Lamy 2k on 2 NOS 140s.
