I use whatever color I feel like using (and it changes a lot sometimes several times a day) even though they would "prefer" we use black.

But then I'm the 52 year old Retired, Opinionated Old Fart that, unlike the other employees, is not intimidated by the management (been there and had way more authority than the ones I work under now...they are employees...I Owned mine before I retired) and do my job exceedingly well (at least they say I do anyway...) so a blind eye seems to be turned to my choice of ink colors...and a few of my other eccentricities..LOL!!!

Interesting to see that, as compared to this other poll, blue and blue-black inks kept here their percentage of users, while the percentage of colorful ink users drastically dropped...

Are users shy to admit they use black ink or shy to say they use colorful inks?

Or perhaps it's the school/work condition that tames them?

I think it depends on your line of work and your relative power at the workplace. As an editor, and sometimes as a teacher, i was required to use red for corrections. Sometimes i'd be caught without a red pen, or i'd run out of ink, and would have to forge ahead in some other colour. They'd send me a bunch of red roller balls with my next batch of work. I'd also get comments when i strayed from standard reds. "That looks like dried blood". Red was really the only colour i had to use. No one cared if i took notes at meetings in orange or purple or green, and a good deal of my writing was on the chalkboard and the computer.

I'm using mostly MB Blue-Black and MB Racing Green at the moment, but have used several other colors too (PR Chocolat, Waterman Florida Blue, PR Ebony Purple, PR Ebony Green, etc.)

Basically, anything that doesn't look really crazy.

I chose the "other" option. My main rule for everyday use is that the must be darkish/blackish, but not plain black: green-blacks, brown-blacks violet-blacks and blue-blacks. I mix them myself in the eternal hunt for the perfect something-blackish.

I keep two pens inked at the office. One color is used for general notes in journals and the other is used for marginal notations, corrections, editing, etc.

Colors most often used for general writing:

1. Noodler's Blue

2. Noodler's Army Green

3. Noodler's HOD

Colors most often used for marginal notations, corrections and editing:

1. Noodler's Habanero

2. Noodler's Dragon's Napalm

3. Noodler's Summer Tanager

I don't like blue, and find that black just blends into all of the paperwork, so I generally use MB Green or PR Burgundy Mist most of the time.

Personal stuff depends on the mood (mostly greens, dusky purples, or sepia tone browns).

I use any color that strikes my fancy that day. My actual work stuff is all done with computer, so I'm not writing any reports or anything that will be needed by others. I guess I'm lucky like that. ;)

Pens I own: Waterman Hemisphere F, Pelikan Epoch M, Parker Frontier Luna Purple M, 9 Lamy Safaris, 2 Pelikan Futures, 2 Heros, Taccia Amethyst Mosaic M, Lamy 2000 B, Kaweco Sport B, Pelikan M101N Souveran

When I win the lottery: Montblanc Boheme Doue Collection - Pirourette with Lilac Stone FP

My vote was "can't decide" but that's because I can happily alternate between black and blue-black, depending on the day. The only other color I have going is a deep, dark-chocolate brown which I mix myself and which would be considered only slightly risqué if I grabbed it inadvertently.

On the other hand, we do have a wide variety of colored markers and highlighters and I do have a mix of colors of gel pens for those occasions when we get to mark up maps. We like the days when we get to color!

I came here for the pictures and stayed for the conversation.

I voted Other because Legal Lapis isn't blue, blue-black, or black. It's more of a dark blue-green.

I like blue. Stands out from the black and white paper and easier to see where I wrote something.

My choice as well, for just that reason. I used black until I stumbled into a job as a computer programmer. Black ink does not show up well on black-printed source-code listings. Since then, I've gotten to like the stand-out quality of blue on paper.

I sometimes wonder if I have lost something, though...

(Incidentally, my favorite color is Mont Blanc blue. Have used a MB Meisterstucke ballpoint for about ten years, and got bottles of MB blue for my fountain pens.

I use a lot of red at work.

But for signing I generally you blue or black although greys and browns also work nicely. Noodlers Nightshade and PR Black Cherry are also acceptable for signing stuff.

My favorite for work used to be blue, but now I am switching over to Noodlers Burgundy. I got a free sample rollerball in burgundy with a pack of pens that I bought. I liked the color so much that I matched it to Noodlers Burgundy. Of course, then I had to get an inexpensive work pen, so I picked up a Lamy All Star. Nice combination!

Lately it's been MB Green, or PR Burgundy Mist. But I work in IT, so it's all notes or rough draft that rarely goes further than my desk. I plan on finally loading the Noodler's Habanero sample I got, so that will likely get used at work as well.

I use Noodlers Purple Martin in most of my daily writing. Some forms that I fax I use Kiowa Pecan so I can keep trakc of the original. For payroll I use Noodlers La Reine Mauve just because. Lastly I use black as a last resort. Lifes to short to use boring colors
