Cleaning up Baystate Blue

BurkStar

Recommended Posts

Well, went in the bathroom to clean out a Pelikan M-200 filled with Baystate Blue. Had heard the warnings about staining porcelin so I did an initial rince in a dixie cup, but then without thinking, moved the pen under the running faucet to rinse out the nib before reloading with more water. Major mistake...purlplish blue ink all over the sink! I tried just water, rubbing with a towel...nothing was working. Then, in a minor fit of desperation, I grabbed a Lysol Disinfecting Wipe and voila! It worked and it cleaned it right up with very little effort! I can now safely continue to use what is becoming my favorite blue ink without fear of continual nagging over a stained sink.

The same applies to bleach. Works like a charm on BSB.

Same thing happened here. I had heard all the warnings and so took a syringe, filled up a cartridge to put into my Cross Compact, went to the sink to rinse out of the syringe forgetting all the warnings, and stained half the sink. Went for the first thing in eye sight which contained bleach, Lysol, and it cleaned it right up.

Stained my fingers with it! All inks do in my case (very dry skin) and most feather also (very dry skin... did I say that already?)

And yes it is waterproof... All other ink rinse out at the next shower at worse...

BSB took 3!

Still, like it!

For sale: nothing!

Looking for: money!

To Buy: Visconti Titanium Skeleton, Omas Ogiva Demo (HT Piston filler), Stipula Etruria nuda, other demos :P

Yup. They don't work. Neither does Lava liquid or soap, Comet or any other powdered abrasive that I've been able to find.

I have had a drop of BSB on my wooden desk earlier this week. Rinsed with water asap first. A stain remained. Then tried a fluid of which I do not know the US word, but its kind of "cleaning vinagar". The stained reduced a little but remained. Yesterday I tried the nail polish remover without aceton applied with a piece of toilet paper. That did the trick.

No warranty whatsoever, but it worked on my desk. The stain was succesfully removed.
