Sheaffer NoNonsense FP

TMann

Recommended Posts

Some years ago Shaeffer packaged one of these as a freebie if you bought a pack of cartridges. Hence, I acquired a number of them and when my son cleaned me out he got all but a red one (he missed it somehow). It sits in my pen cup loaded with Parker Quick Black and regardless of how long it goes between exercising, it starts immediately. I wish I could say that of any other FP I own. Nothing fancy, nothing really wrong, it just gets the job done. That is about the highest praise I could give any pen. When I grab it, I do not think whether it is beautiful, sexy, gold tipped, flexible, blah, blah, blah. I concentrate of the words and not the tool.

Looks like part of an old Calligraphy set. $20.00 is what I would consider a very high price.

$20 for a NN is very common and buying from Bob Speerbreecher (hope i'm spelling his last name right!) is a delight. he's also a member here.

you can also buy from Teri (see her a few posts up!!) she has good prices and free shipping. see her site and tell me if you like her prices: http://www.peytonstreetpens.com/servlet/the-114/Sheaffer-NO-NONSENSE-Fountain/Detail (she has an ebay store too: http://stores.ebay.com/Peyton-Street-Antiques_Writing-Instruments_W0QQ_fsubZ4QQ_sidZ520094QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322 )

I love this pen. Saw one in the collection of a co-member of our lively fountain pen lovers' group, at a pen meet held just earlier. :) I saw one purple, new old stock being sold on ebay for a reasonable price (or what I think is a reasonable price -- 19.95 USD sans shipping -- and I'm extremely tempted to buy it!

The only problem is, I don't know if it can fit into my student budget for this month. :D (I owe another co-member just below 10 USD for her secondhand Lamy Vista and am also saving up for a Sheaffer Agio, apart from my everyday purchases which my allowance can barely cover). :clap1:

My only question about this No Nonsense is: does it take modern-day Sheaffer converters?

Pendemonium has them (http://www.pendemonium.com/ink_sheaffer.htm). Scroll down to the Sheaffer converter section and they are the SHF-99500 for $15 apiece.

The NoNonsense pens are excellent; I've got a big bunch of them myself and keep at least four of them inked up at all times.

But will the piston converter fit?

ISellPens (no affiliation other than as a satisfied customer) has pink, purple and green Sheaffer No Nonsense pens with fine or medium nibs for $8.88 plus S&H. They are the older preferred models with screw-on caps. Go to the site and click on Sheaffer NOS in the left side menu.

Yes.

I haven't tried the piston converter myself, but if the size is accurate it should.

Seen 'em. Lovely! I am not from the United States though, so I'm looking at $40 total w/ shipping. Still trying to see if anything can be done about it.

A few months ago someone had a few black NN pens with gold furniture available NOS. I didn't get one (dumb!) but thought they were very attractive. Was this a common variant or something unusual?

The gold furniture indicates that they were from the NoNonsense "Old Timer" series, which had a variety of black, red, green and blue bodies; black grip and metal all in gold plating. They are pretty hard to find these days. I've looked for a specific model for 5 years and only seen it twice on eBay during that time.

Where do you guys even find these pens? Now I'm just hankering after a pink jelly...

Oh, and if I might add I'd just like your two cents. Which of the two colors (solid) is considered rarer: pink or violet? Or is it just a matter of preference?

I'm looking at the pens on isellpens.com. :D

Thanks! Always wondered about that. Yet another lesson for me in "if you see it and you like it, don't hesitate."

By the way, the thumbnail photo you use is wonderful.
