This is my Watermans 92

post-5205-1204118784_thumb.jpg

The nib is a Waterman's ideal reg. US. Pat Off

On the barrel is "Waterman's Ideal Fountain Pen Reg.US.Pat. Off. Made in USA Fountain Pen

On the foot of the barrel is imprinted '92'

The nib is very fine and very flexible.

As I understand it, the 9 denotes the material used in the construction and the 2 is the nib size - and that's all I know.

It seems to be relatively uncommon as I haven't been able to find many references to it. Can anyone add to my meagre information - in particular, how old is it?

If anyone is interested, I posted an example of how it performs here

Thanks

I think this model was around the same time as the 94 and the Patrician, so my guess is around 1928 or 29...

Can't add much to what has been said, but

On the barrel is "Waterson's Ideal Fountain Pen Reg.US.Pat. Off. Made in USA Fountain Pen

I hope that should be "Waterman's" not "Waterson's". Waterson was a brand in the 1930s by James Kelley to rip-off the Waterman name. He got busted by the FTC for unfair trade over it, took it to court, and lost big-time.

So if you have a lot of ink,

You should get a Yink, I think.

Sorry - slip of the pen - it should have been Waterman's.

Waterson's is a big book store in Britain.

Thanks for pointing it out - I've now edited it.

Hi,

The model codes had been pretty well shot to he!! by the early '30's when this pen popped up.

By the early 1930's, a time of flux for Waterman (which was indeed starting to become pretty well fluxed up), one had from top down...

Patrician $10

#7 (black and green ray plastic) $7

94 and #5 at... $5

Lady Patricia (i'm losing price sense now, either $5 or $3.50 or so)

Waterman 92, $3.50 or so.

92 was the butt end of the line at this point (not sure the Junior had popped up yet). But still pen of quality and with some grand colors out there. Your color is Steel Quartz

As early 30's gave way to mid 30's, the 92 would change trim, the similar-ish #3 would appear. The Ink View (model 84, iirc, though few today call it by that) would appear but perhaps not altogether replace the #94.

And so on.

Waterman pens from this era are quite collectable. For good reason. As per below.

Here are some period pens for yer contemplation...

regards

david

Gorgeous Color Moss Agate array: Patrician, Lady Patricia and 94. These all were mine at one time but have since been sold. The Patrician was near mint stickered and boxed- pulled some $2500 on ebay. A decent to grand Lady Pat will retail around $150-300.
