Autopoint Mechanical Pencils

I bought a few modern Autopoint pencils - jumbos, all-americans, pushdome, and one twinpoint. They seem very durable, and I like it that I can advance (on the non-pushdome pencils) the lead exactly how much I want to, which I expect should decrease the amount of broken leads. It is also possible to use more of the lead than on most pencils.

The Jumbo is my favourite (actually one of my favourites of any brand), the Pushdome comes last. The mechanism on the Pushdome feels... wrong somehow, and the benefits of a retractable tube is lessened by how difficult it is to retract it. Certainly not a bad pencil, but not as good as the others.

All,

Thank you for your interest in Autopoint. I recently purchased Autopoint and can provide a little history on the company. The company stalled out when they were purchased by Gillette, they eventually sold the plant in Chicago and most of the assets and sold the company to the owner that I bought it from. They were last found in a big box store in the early 2000's. The twinpoints, All American and All American Jumbo are still in production, the Pushdome however is no longer being produced, I am trying to locate the molds for the parts. They changed hand several time over the years and as companies closed and moved, the process of making the push dome never got refined to the point where is was feasible to produce without increasing the retail price. In the near future with a little bit of luck they will be back in the larger stores. We are growing online and starting to approach local stores to carry our product.

It truly has been the die-hards like all of you that have kept the company alive. I thank you for the support and hope that you enjoy Autopoint pencils for years to come.

Sincerely,

Jason Bender

President

Autopoint Inc.

Just received my order from Autopointinc.com yesterday, with a yellow .7mm All American pencil and a few other items ("cough" BPs and a RB) for my desk. Quite happy with everything so far.

The company needs to boost its web awareness/presence significantly for more growth, IMHO. And try for some positive reviews on a few of the blog and pen review websites.

An idea for you: Source out a nib section and use the Leathern Rollerball to create a FP variant. You'll get lots more attention here, for sure.

If I might enter into the suggestion fray:

Jason,

You should really bring back the Jumbo All American in Dark blue with the Red tip, now that was a REALLY classy and nice design. Currently it seems only available in the inventory reduction, which is a pity, as it would be great to see this color scheme continue.

The shipping and packaging on the Autopoint products is great: very fast and very professional.

I have seen many reviews for autopoint and took the plunge I ordered mine off Amazon will be getting them next week. I found autopoint by "accident" you could say when on a whim I bought a vintage waterman that took 1.1 mm lead well now that waterman need some repair work and in the mean time I ordered a Black autopoint pencil. To tide me over while i get things for repairs and the such. Based on what I have seen I am sure I wont be let down by the company or the product at all. Also since I am an engineering student I foresee me buying lots of lead and prob many more pencils in the future. I am tired of those cheap sometimes expensive "cheap" pencils with that weak 0.5mm lead that I always break.

I love my Pentels largely because they were my first nice mechanical pencils, but Autopoint is still my favorite... I just need to get a 1.1mm Jumbo to compliment my 0.9 Jumbo and Twinpoint...

They have great CS too. My Twinpoint arrived with a cracked red plastic ferrule and Autopoint sent me a new tip assembly, a tube of red leads and a nice handwritten note on their dime. Couldn't be happier, especially since the pencils are American made and really no more expensive than most of the Pentels I'm interested in or have.

Here to help when I know, learn when I don't, and pass on the information to anyone I can :)

I also am interested in a jumbo myself to see how the difference is between the normal and a jumbo is. I can read the differences all day long but wont really get a good grasp on it until its in my hand.

I found a nice green All American at a yard sale for 50cents. I thought that it was in phenomenal shape for a vintage pencil, and was very surprised to find that it's a new one!

More on the way!!

I got my black auto point 1.1 in couple days ago. WOW I love that thing. I dont think I'll ever go back to anything smaller than 0.9mm again I love the feel of 0.9 and the 1.1. My gf's kid even loved it so she will prob get some from me at some point soon.
