why people love, and hate, moleskines

It is all about consistency. Reading this thread demonstrates exactly why Moleskin notebooks are not for FP users. Every time you buy one you don't know what you will get. If the paper was consistent then you could make a considered decision on whether or not the notebook is right for you. The current batch of coloured cover volants is very good to write on - if that paper was in the regular notebooks I would buy them. But its a lottery. To me thats just not good enough in a premium product.

i don't have much luck to find one that is good. or too good luck to cherry pick all the swollen ones. :headsmack:

My best guess is that Moleskine quality is becoming more variable over time, and that Moleskine's parent company knows as much: hence the product support code tucked in the pocket (I actually used mine and did, in fact, get a second one). In my own experience, disenchantment with Moleskines led me to write this post, as well as well as a series of notebook review posts (like this one, on a Guildhall notebook). Over the long term, I think I'm going to stick with the Rhodia Webnotebook: it has a few things I dislike (like the lines failing to reach the ends of the page), but it does seem the best combination of size, price, durability, and availability.
