Who use which fountain pen?

Seems I saw a thread where J.F. Kennedy was using an Esterbrook desk pen to sign papers.

What is a Planck nib and it's history or magic? A quick Google search only brings me to Mottishaw's webpage mentioned above, and this very thread (kinda a circular thing, ya know?).

Fred

And according to John Mottishaw's writer's page Art Spiegelman (creator of the 1992 Pulitzer Prize winning memoir as graphic novel Maus: A Survivor's Tale) likes "Planck" nibs that can be fitted into a Pelikan.

Howard Hughes, what did he use? How about Ronald Reagan?

Not in the same league...but Pete Williams of NBC news is always waving around a Pelikan Souvereign in red when he appears on Washington Week in Review.

... and Mussolini wrote with that converter fill pen that's for sale by Mr. Benz on the 'Bay! Or not...

YOU SAW THE MUSSOLINI PEN!!! That advert was the greatest piece of international fiction ever created. I was laughing so hard, I almost bought it. Wanted to show the ad to FPN, but thought Mr. Benz had already had a bad week, beaten down by the forums.

It's fascinating to realize that people stuck with a pen or brand of pen much like my grandfather always drove a Ford.

I know, L.M. Montgomery who wrote all the 'Anne of Green Gables'

stories during the same time period used mostly dip pens. In one of her

journal diary entries she talks about her love of the new ball points. She

can write so much faster and smoothly with it she says.

During a discussion I had with some eminate L.M.M. scholars ,I suggested

that since she made this ball point reference in an early 20th century

journal entry ,she was not referring to the same type of ball points that we

talk about today. The modern ball point still had 40 years to go to be

invented . I explained that she was probably referring to irridium tipped

nibs, or rounded steel tipped nibs instead of the plain chizeled sharp steel

pens she was using before that.

I do wonder what brand of ball point tipped pens she used. I would be

willing to bet she was a Waterman or Sheaffer type of person.?

ooooh I love those Green Gable books! I had the whole collection but they are back in my parents' house in Louisiana. :crybaby:

Pens I own: Waterman Hemisphere F, Pelikan Epoch M, Parker Frontier Luna Purple M, 9 Lamy Safaris, 2 Pelikan Futures, 2 Heros, Taccia Amethyst Mosaic M, Lamy 2000 B, Kaweco Sport B, Pelikan M101N Souveran

When I win the lottery: Montblanc Boheme Doue Collection - Pirourette with Lilac Stone FP

Of course. I believe it is the h-bar model. Only one nib size... and it's really, really fine.

My guess is that a Planck nib has a constant flow ( ) Sorry (not very, actually) could not resist. By the same token, though, a Heisenberg nib would make very uncertain marks on the paper.

I am pretty sure Schrödinger used a Planck nib. Heisenberg may have used one too, although I am not certain.

Not sure what brand it was, but I've heard James Clerk Maxwell used an electric pen with magnetic ink... :roflmho:

So was there no one famous who like us had many fountain pens?

Doug

Hi Doug,

Well at least there is one collecting pens: French president Nicolas Sarkozy

He is known to be a montblanc MB 149 user and when he signs international agreements, he likes to keep the pen as a souvenir...

Back in February 2008 he kept a 149 as souvenir after signing an agreement with Rumania:

If you want to take a look: sarkosy in roumanie

The story was so big in France and echoed in Germany, that when he visited chancelor Merckel he was offered a pen supposed to be a Pelikan: in the video you will see that he thanks the person offering him the pen and he says that he is collecting...

The story ends for the moment with Dupont ST who take adavantage and created and offered the Dupont President to president Sarkozy to get him to use French products :happyberet: Dupont Président

Have fun,

Daniel

I'd like to tell about post Soviet politicians. Ukrainian president Viktor Yuschenko is some kind of FPNer in MB. He likes them most of all! And he has some models that are very very expensive and even several that are the only (that is skeleton with the map of Ukraine).

Vladimir Putin according to several resourses prefers MB, Parker (one was given to him by Boris Elcin when he resigned), Montegrappa "Dragon" in gold. Some tells that he never leaves his Parker 75

Other famous persons that used Montegrappa: Sylvio Berluskoni an Iordanian king Husseyn - "Reminiscence", Bill Clinton and Romano Prodi - "Special Reserve", Fidel Castro - "Dragon", "Luxor" и "Sigara", Nicolas Cage and Giorgio Armani - "Dragon" in silver

Great stuff! Thanks all for your contributions.

My "neighbor", USSC Justice David Souter, reportedly uses an Esterbrook, although no information on what model or vintage has been publicly reported.

Last week I saw a Parker at an antique store, bearing a White House inscription from Richard Nixon. It was a ballpoint though; I knew that guy had no class! ;)

I'm Andy H and I approved this message.

Although Nixon had Parker Ballpoints he also had Parker Fountain pens - I have seen some 45's with his signature from his time as the President.

Rowdy

Cool page - www.loringpage.com in regard to pens used by US Presidents from Truman to Clinton.
