Aurora Black

I use mostly blue inks, but after hearing many positive comments, I gave it a go.

Note: the ink color is written on the box but not on the bottle label. So if you also have Aurora blue, it can become confusing. That explains the label.

Aurora black is perhaps not quite as black as a raven's wing, but it is very dark and has an even consistency. Here's a sample quickly and sloppily written:

Written with a Pilot 743 on Crane's Crest 100% cotton.

It lives up to its reputation as a very free flowing, "wet" ink. A friend described it to me as the motor oil of fp inks. If you have a dry writer or a problem with ink sticking to the inside of your convertor, give this a try. Curiously, I found Aurora Blue to be a dry writing by comparison.

I haven't used black in donkey's years, but will gladly use it now. :bunny1:

Regards,

Jeen

I consistently recommend Aurora Black to people looking for a really reliable, really dark black ink that really looks black. I'd recommend Doctor, which is blacker, denser, "greasier," and more nearly bulletproof, but it's not generally available. :bonk:

Thanks for the review, I've been hoping someone would do that. Great looking black, it's on my list for the next purchase. BTW, I've found Aurora Blue--which has become my favorite blue--to be fairly wet and free-flowing, at least in my pens.

Aurora Noir is one of my Absolut™ favorite inks. It's always nice to hear others discovering it.

Nice writing!!!

i've always found it a free-flowing ink. It's one of those inks that's interesting to watch as it dries. from a shimmering dark blue to soft, subtle shading. That may be what Jeen is picking up on. It doesn't dry as saturated-looking as the black does but has some nice shading characteristics.

Wow, everyone talks about Aurora Black but, as far as I can see, this is the first FPN review of it! :o

Thanks for the review and photos, Jeen. It looks like a high quality ink (and I think your handwriting has a lot of character...in a good way, I mean  )

Very nice, legible, handwriting. If that's the "sloppily written" version, the better version ought to blow us away! Thanks for the look at Aurora Black.

Best, Ann

yes Jeen, that was a cool review and I really like the poem. I never read any of his poetry, only about half of the Red Badge... I will have to look into more of his work. Thanks for that!!

Richard,

Can you tell me more about this Doctor? What brand makes it? Where can I get it? I am on the hunt for the most vibrant and viscous black available.

Trying Visconti now...and I'm less than impressed.

Help?

Thank you sir!

Michael

Aurora Black has been my usual BLACK ink for quite a time for now. It works perfectly with 99.9% and only surpassed with better flow by Namiki Black (in my experience), being both inks easily available and not rare "birds"...

Both are deep black, both perfectly flowing and problemfree inks... (as far as I know)

Aurora black is the only ink I have tried so far that allows me to sketch quickly with my Pilot 78g, which is a very dry writer. You can feel the difference in lubrication and flow right away. I'd hate to try it in my medium Pelikano though. I might as well just pour the ink from the bottle onto the paper.

This is simply the BEST black ink period.

That is all.

Agreed. I also like Pelikan Brilliant Black specially in wet writers, but Aurora Black is my favorite black ink.

Sincerely,

Hany.
