The TianAnMen is reddish based.

The Antietam is orangey based.

Very helpful side by side. Thanks!!

Am I the only one that find this particular bloodish red linked with that name ironic. Of course there is more to the story than the simple picture of the guy standing in front of the tanks, but still, the "sub-name" feels to me like it could be : "if the tank and no brakes..."

just a thought... ;)

Does anyone know if this ink is likely to stain ink level windows? I really like the look of this ink, but I'm a little cautious putting any red-hued inks in a truly nice pen.

Isn't Nikita not-completely-susceptible-to-water? I haven't used it, but I thought that was the situation. Nathan told me yesterday that a water-resistant (not bulletproof) red is in the works.

I do have Nikita and I have done extensive wash-testing with it.

It washes off paper with plain running water, leaving behind just enough to still read what was written but nearly 80% washed out.

Liquid soap washes it out more and gives it a halo effect.

Isopropyl alcohol washes it out but once again still leaves behind enough to make out what was written.

Bleach destroys it completely, nothing left behind at all.

The only red I've seen listed as being "bulletproof" is as written on Pendamonium, copied/pasted as follows:

"Fox Red - This is is a tough one to describe in text. It is a dark red (not holiday red!), has a very slight hint of pink in it (not magenta though!) and leans a tiny bit toward the burgundy range!"

“I view my fountain pens & inks as an artist might view their brushes and paints.

They flow across paper as a brush to canvas, transforming my thoughts into words and my words into art.

There is nothing else like it; the art of writing and the painting of words!”

I'm sure the colour is intentional.

The 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen incident is coming soon btw: 5th June.

Red, incidentally, is a lucky colour to the Chinese. Hence the quote about the ink being "auspicious" on the bottle. Not this kind of blood red though.

has nathan finished the water resistant red yet? Fox red and empire red seem either too expensive or badly behaved and havent tried nikita yet but hope too.

I dont like redbrown and dont have any bulletproof inks to be able to try mixing.

By the way is Shahs Rose waterproof?

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

I notice this Noodler's TianAnMen takes forever to dry out . And even when the whole page is done, it will smear if you try to.

Gosh... anyone else here have the same experience ?

Difinitely yes. I liked the color but had to stop using the ink because I didn't like wearing it on my clothes all day.

I noticed this as well. I like the hue of red it produced, but it doesn't stick to the paper as well as other Noodler inks. I flows smoothly out of the cheap fountain pen I was using for it, but it's going back into inky storage. I don't have a real use for this color right now.

Just as Antietam was the bloodiest battle of the American Civil War....can't be a coincidence.

"Fox Red - ...

No, there's also Djinn of the Eternal Flame (a Swisher's exclusive ink. (Actually it's eternal, not bulletproof, but I really don't think this makes a difference.)

There's also Empire Red (a UK-issued ink availble from many sellers). Then there are two red inks from the Russian series, Esenin and Tsvetayeva. Not sure about them, but Es. looks like a medium red and Tsvet. a pinkish red. (The Swisher's series also has Hellbender, a pinkish red, maybe more properly called a fuschia or magenta?). Then, with REAL exclusives, there is a Taiwan Red, and there is a Singapore Red (Samsui Red), but those are more difficult to obtain.

I believe this must have been the Rabaoul Red from the new X-mail series, which Nathan had been telling me about. There's also a Maroon in that series.

Fox red and empire red seem either too expensive or badly behaved.

Djinn of the Eternal Flame is excellently behaved. Also, when you mix Empire Red with another red, it no longer misbehaves.

By the way is Shahs Rose waterproof?

Haven't used it, but I don't think so.

(Tiananmen)'s going back into inky storage. I don't have a real use for this color right now.

Sorry my responses have been off-topic, but to be on-topic again, I too rarely use my Tiananmen, because of its flatness (non-shading). The slow-drying isn't too much of a problem to me. It does occur, but there are worse inks. I try to have a blotter paper with me wherever I go. I usually don't have to use it. Anyway, I have been using Widowmaker for a straight, deep red lately. I also discovered an excellent mix -- Ottoman Rose with Djinn of the Eternal Flame. It cuts the magenta/pink-ness of Ottoman Rose, but retains its depth. If you want a dark red ink that isn't brownish, THIS is the way to go, I'm convinced.
