What is broken about it?

In my experience, Montblanc often won't work on pre-1980 models, and pre-1960 isn't even considered.

The only European Montblanc repair specialist that I've been able to find on the web is at http://www.maxpens.de, the site is mostly in German, but I believe Max also speaks some English because the site also has some English on it. Email reparatur@maxpens.de

You may ask Tom Westerich--PM me if you cannot find his email as he is a partner of Max's on penboard.de--if he knows anyone in the US who could fix this for you. It's worth a shot and could beat sending this wonderful pen all the way to Germany for repair. Sometimes, though, that is the only option.

Thank a Veteran.

Hello Eric,

I am sorry, pen is in Japan.

Here is part of the email from the buyer.

When I flashed the pen with cold water, I realized that my fingers were painted blue by the ink.

Therefore, I filled the pen with cold water and leave it in water.

Please see the attached photo.

The ink was leaking from between the body and the ink window.

I took the pen to Montblanc Boutique in Tokyo for repair today.

Then, I was told that the pen might has crack under the silver cover or around the ink window.

For fixing it, it’ll take 5 months

Hope this description helps.

Thank you for your time, MrsA

Sounds like a crack in the barrel. Max may be your best bet.

The only authorized Montblanc repair facility in the USA is located in Pennsylvania. Even if you take your Montblanc to an authorized dealer they will send it to this location:

Montblanc North Ammerica, LLC

252 Broadhead Road Suite 500

Bethlehem, Pa. 18017

1-800-995-4810

www.montblanc.com

If you go to the official Montblanc web site look for the FAQ page. Click nthe question "Where can I get my Montblanc repaired." Follow through and you'll both foreign and domestic repair locations.

I've had two Montblancs repaired by the Pennsylvania office with good results. They are not very fast but it certainly will not take six months.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Jake,

I live 1 hour from Bethlehem.

I appreciate your help.

A gentleman, Tom Westerich, helped me with my original problem.

He handled my repair immediately .

My customer was thrilled.

I do have another question. What does LATON mean inside the clip of a Montblanc ?

I have a MONTBLANC Solitaire STERLING Silver BARLEY CORN fountain pen with this under the clip.

If you can not help, I will post this as a separate question.

Thank you again, MrsA

You delivered it and they fixed it on the spot?

Hi Fred,

I should have explained that Tom is from Germany and he contacted my buyer and arranged to send him the glue needed for the repair.

I will be using the one in Bethlehem from now on, Germany is a bit far, although Tom was a gem.

Latón is the Spanish word for brass. The clip is made of plated brass, and is designated as such because the body of the pen is hallmarked silver.

Nice pen! I love solid silver... :)

Thank you for the information.

I have attached a picture of the pen in question.

Please excuse the quality of the photo, this is only for my picture archive.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
