Violette Pensee - J. Herbin -- scan attached

There's something in me that finds this colour just the wrong side of the divider between masculine and feminine to use freely. This is a shame, as it's a fine ink. The problem, as with so many of this sort, is internal to the person that finds a it a problem.

 

 

I actually purchased this ink a couple of weeks ago. In looking at Inkquest's scans, and comparing them to my ink on paper in incandescent light, I would say that the actual color is closer to the Waterman scans. Betty's photograph comes closer to the actual color.

 

Humbly, I agree with Mr. Bitterman, it's a bit too feminine for my tastes as a ink-for-work. In fact, I purchased the ink for my daughter. Perhaps adding a little black to the ink would man-it-up a little.

Love the color of this ink and I used up a load of it in my MB149 already. I even used it at work for signing papers.

 

It is nicely shading and behaving well. I have not encountered the light problem yet. I will have a couple of notes lying around in the light of my desk to see what will happen.

Sorry for the small bump, but I have this color and LOVE it. However, I'm wondering if it's the pen or ink that makes it not always want to start right away. Seems fussy if the pen has been facing nib-side-up too long. Not a huge annoyance, but if it's been a while it's a couple of words in until this ink starts flow again sufficiently. Otherwise, no flaws here. Beautiful, consistent color with great drying times and no bleed-through. Again, the only quip is it seems fussy initially if I haven't used the pen in a while. At $9 just about everywhere, I say in total confidence it's worth every penny.

Hi Nathan, the ink was a well earned reputation for being very well behaved. I am convinced some pens do not play well with all inks, but in this case, I would try the ink in another pen and flush the problematic one thoroughly. I would lean towards a cap that does not seal well if the problem persist ( is the pen a Sonnet, by the way?). Really worth every penny, this ink. Bitterman & Toaster Pastry, millions of manly French even in their teens used the ink and never had a problem with their "manly side". But they use perfume as well, you know. Lol.

Since I wrote the above, I've had another go with it to see if I could overcome my foolish objection. Alas, not entirely (an ink that won't appear at work), but I do discover through a happy accident that it is VERY resistant to water damage once it's been on the paper a day or so. Very interesting.

Very interesting indeed. I've been looking for a nice violet lately, and this may be the one. I wouldn't use it to sign documents, but for note-taking, annotating, and what-not, it might be just the ticket.

 

Any word on fade-resistance?

Yeah, looks like my Safari is scratchy sometimes. Ugh. Oh well. Still trying to figure out what makes it flow best. I'm convinced the ink is not the problem.

Has anyone mentioned the scent of Violette Pensee? A couple of months ago, when working very late, I decided to fill my Montblanc 146 with the JHerbin VPensee. While filling the pen, I noticed a subtle, floral fragrance, and discovered it was the ink, which I had purchased at least 4 months before, and had used only sparingly. I was surprised that the fragrance had not been noticed on the earlier occasions that the ink was used.

But, I just bought another bottle, and it's Violette scent is very subtle, almost not there. Anyone notice the variation? Or does the fragrance increase with the age of the ink?

This colour is N°2 best sales for Herbin and was used by all the french pupils in the 40'50' at school.
