Here's a photo of the purple inks that I have at the moment. Many thanks to Ann Finley for helping me out with the color correction. Without further ado . . .

Glad to do it, but do realize that purple is one of the hardest colors to get to show up correctly in a scan or photo. Ann did wonders with what I sent her.

Nice...A few that I have that you're missing: Noodlers Concord Bream, Conway Stewart Violet, Private Reserve Purple Haze, Noodlers Socrates.

Concord Bream is especially different, a very muted, true purple/lavender.

CS Violet is much like Omas Purple, but a little lighter and redder, IIRR.

Purple Haze is a pastel purple ink, most usable with edged nibs.

Socrates is a bright reddish or magenta-ish purple. Much like Suguaro Wine. Bulletproof color.

Nice, I just posted a picture of some of my blue and purple inks, in the inky thoughts area. I treid attaching a link to my post, but can't get it to work.

I have several of the same inks that you have.

Thanks Southpaw, I've really needed something like this for a while. I love purple, but two of the inks I have on your list haven't behaved well for me: Noodler's Coleur Royale and Waterman's purple. They both feather like mad. Based on your review, I'll have to give them another shot before I sell them down the line.

Sorry to hear that the Noodlers Coleur Royale feathers like mad. I was about to comment that that was the best looking color on Southpaw's chart. Does it feather on all types of paper?

Hmmm. . . I've never had any trouble of any kind with any Waterman ink (other than the color loss on the blue-black), and the Purple is probably my most often used ink. I've only used the NCR just a little, but I don't recall it feathering either. Maybe it was a particularly bad type of paper? Very wet nib? Just guessing here. Anyhow, the Waterman for sure is, imho, a trouble-free ink.

Since Waterman's Florida Blue is now the "safety" ink I put into any new pen for a trial run, I'll have to give the Waterman's Purple another shot. Ditto the Noodler's Royale, I can't even remember which pen or paper I used either on, so perhaps I didn't give it a fair shake. ( CharlieB: I can send you a sample if you'd like to try it for yourself. Just PM me.)

That's a bunch of nice purples, Southpaw. Just this week I got the bottle of Sheaffer Purple that I ordered. I like it. It's somewhere between the Omas Violet and Pelikan Violet in your samples.

Thanks for all the effort Southpaw, it is nice to see these, althought purple is not one of the colours I really reach for, for my pens.... :ltcapd:

Hi Southpaw,

Thanks for posting (and creating) the ink samples! I recently bought my first OMAS ink, the Violet in your scan, and am pleasantly surprised to see that it looks like a cross between PR Tanzanite and Waterman Purple. To be 100% honest with you, I bought the ink mostly for the bottle  because I hadn't seen OMAS inks in any local shops before and hadn't seen any reviews of the Violet on FPN (I saw your scan after I made my purchase)..... I haven't tried it out yet, but I will ink up my Hero 200A fountain pen that it winging its way to me from Arizona....

Thanks again,

~Maja
