Parker Sonnet Sterling silver Fougere

Recommended Posts

I´ve been looking for information about this Sonnet Fougere, but I haven´t found much on the web. I´m interested in one I found for sale, but it looks different from the pictures I´ve seen through Google: it´s got a one tone nib, and only one nib ring; the ones ín the photos have two-tone nibs and two nib rings (one at the end of the section, another one half a centimeter away from it. Is it an older version?

By the way, is the Fougere a solid silver pen, or just silverplated?

best regards,

Rique

The original (real) parker sonnet is sterling silver. There are a LOT of fakes from China out there, be careful.

Sensitive Pen Restoration doesn't cost extra.

The Parker Sonnet Sterling Silver Forgere is probably one of the prettiest pens in my collection. It is a sterling silver body and cap with gold band and clip. There are two rings on the section one at the nib and one just a little way back as you describe. The nib is definitely going to be a two tone nib. Should look like this:

Yes, this is the pen I´ve seen in the websites. The one I´m interested in buying, however, has a single tone nib and only one nib ring. The dealer (online) is very serious and has a excellent reputation, but he is not a specialist and wouldn´t be able to say whether his is an older version or a frankenpen...

Mine looks like the photo above; with a narrow ring at the waist and nib end of the section, and a two tone nib. I bought it through Levenger a few years ago, and am confident it is genuine.

Rique, is the pen that you are considering to buy used? It is possible that a single tone nib was placed into a Fougere as Sonnet nibs are interchangeable.

By online you mean ebay? If yes, then excellent reputation is not equivalent to perfect feedback (most fake sellers have 100% feedback).

However, I have not seen a Fougere fake yet... I would be very interested if such a beast exists. Up to this point the fake makers have not produced any Fougere or Chinese Laqueur (:)) Sonnets.

I had a chance to handle one of these beautiful pens, and I think it had a single tone nib, but I can't say for sure. Also, I don't remember golden assets too...

Yes, it is used, but it comes with box and papers. And yes, it is ebay, too - but I have already bought many pens from this seller and I can vouch for him - he is totally reliable. However, he is not a specialist in such Parker arcana, and perhaps he bought this from someone who was not as honest as he was... He certainly wouldn´t mind taking the pen back, if I examined it and found it was not an original one, but how can I know for sure the pen is a fake?

This is an absolutely gorgeous pen. I had the luck to find one on sale but the nib was destroyed. I didn't call it to the attention of the clerk because I knew they would not sell it to me if they saw the fault. I was told that the pen had been sitting in the showcase for years. I bought it and sent it to Parker and they installed a new nib for $40.00. The nib is two toned.

The pen is indeed sterling silver. It has hallmarks on the cap.

Will the seller allow you to send the pen back if you are not satisfied?

One of the first articles on fake Sonnets that I read was one written by FPN's own "antoniosz" (Antonios Zavaliangos), re-posted on Penhero.com:

There is an interesting article on "Stylophiles Online" about fake Sonnets, too:

I have an additional question about the Fougere. I have one that I bought on ebay. Used it for over a year and I absolutely love the pen. Unfortunately my teenage daughter used the nib to get even with me one day a while back and now it is in bad shape.

The issue is this. Based on everything that I have been able to read about the pen and the fakes that are out there. I think that I have a real Fougere. Today I was talking to the people at www.nibs.com because I finally decided to try and get the nib replaced/repaired, and I discovered something. My nib is different than all the pictures. The metal looks the same, two tone with all the right marks, but the plastic is a solid barrel instead of a tube with the fins that appear in all the pictures of the nib section.

What do I have? I am really curious at this point. If anyone can point me at any information I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Terry

There are Parker Sonnets and Parker Sonnet Fougeres. The first one has those features as you described, but it doesn't come in silver. There is also fake Sonnets in the market so look for instructions for spotting those fake ones and demand really good photos from the seller. I have got a silver Fougere with M nib. It didn't work very well, so i had trouble grinding the nib and bending it back and forth to make it work well but i succeeded. The testing period still goes on so i don't tell yet if i like it or not. I think i like it. Fougere is solid silver and the nib is gold with some rhodium plating to make it nice two toned that i like. This is a bit smaller pen than Frontier for example. Those gold-colored clip and ring in the cap are gold plated i think. I bought mine from ebay and it went well.

There are other ways than the easiest one too.
