Help to identify this vintage Sheaffer # 3 overlay pen

Recommended Posts

When I first saw this on the vendor's table, I thought it was a Waterman 454 "Night and Day." However, it's shorter at just over 4.5 inches, and has a Sheaffer's #3 nib. The only markings on the pen are on the nib, "Sheaffer's 3 Made in the USA." Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Made circa 1917.  These were called various things including "slotted".  The scroll filigree is catalogued and more common.  There are slotted Sheaffer's in both gold filled and sterling.

That is a cool overlay pattern, I didn't know it existed. Roger your full length pen is really pretty.
