Parker 75 ballpoint pen - Plastic inner thread

Udo

Recommended Posts

After several Parker “51” fountain pens as well as Duofolds and ‘45’ fountain pens and ballpoint pens, I would like to try my hand at the last real Parker: the Parker “75”.

I world like to start with a ballpoint pen in Sterling Silver, almost new from 1983, made in the USA. It is almost in mint condition.

Let me ask you a question: Why does Parker equip such a “high-end” writing instrument with a plastic inner thread?

Are there any collectors here who can say something about the durability of the screw thread?

Many thanks in advance for any information.

Greetings, Udo

oh, I would hazard a guess at the "why"...

$, $$ and $$$

As I don't have one myself, I will leave the question of durability to others

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

I have a P-75 ballpoint in standard P-75 ciselle. The inner cap threads -- I think that's what you mean -- are plastic. The barrel, of course, is silver / steel.

Why?

I have a P-51 ballpoint, and once had a Parker 45 ballpoint. All Parker ballpoints were basically the Parker ("T-Ball") Jotter. Always had plastic inner threads. They have lasted a long time. They last and last.

I've been using my P75 BP Flighter (stainless steel one) for many years as my EDC BP due to its durability and have never ever faced any problems with its threads.

It is pretty robust and reliable BP.

All the best is only beginning now...

I've just checked threads on my P75 Flighter: both are metal (brass) ...

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
