Waterman 55 with Aikin Lambert clip

Recommended Posts

I've got an anomalous Waterman 55 with an Aikin Lambert clip. How common is this?

I understand that Waterman continued the Aikin Lambert brand after acquiring it, sometimes incorporating slightly defective Waterman parts to use them up.

This goes the other way. The pen carries a Waterman imprint on the barrel, is marked 55, and has a #6 Waterman nib. Everything is Waterman except the clip.

Anomalous, since the clip is a significant part of the branding.

Its likely a replacement cap due to the difference in pattern (woodgrain on barrel and red ripple on cap)

Alco (Aiken Lambert under Waterman) did make ripple pens in almost identical Waterman style, with section being black, feed being Aiken Lambert style and also the lever.
caps, barrels, sections, nibs and feeds are all interchangeable with the similar size Watermans.

Thanks. I'd wondered about that, but thought the cap fit too well. If the parts are interchangeable between AL and Waterman's, a replacement cap seems the most likely explanation.

Interestingly, the section is also in a ripple pattern. It's only the barrel that's in woodgrain.

Woodgrain sections can sometimes be almost like ripple. I guess this is also because it is a tapered surface If you look at both sides or the nib do you see clear rippling

When ripple is misaligned its kind of difficult to see clearly. But when correctly aligned same ripple should go through the entire length of the pen. Olive and short red ripple in this case is misaligned to various levels.

In the second pic , woodgrain cap is kind of an upside down ripple. One that ripples through the top of the cap and not the middle of the pen (when cap is closed) So the section should also start with kind of a ripple at that end I guess

Just curious,. what's the pattern on the feed like ?

The section and cap do seem to have matching patterns.

Section is certainly a ripple. While the pattern is matching from what I understand (which could be wrong) Aiken Lamberts had black sections and feeds that are narrow but boxy (normal Aiken Lambert feed).

Imprint shouldn't have the "Ripple" wording, If it does, it would be really wired and unique.

No, it doesn't say "Ripple" on the imprint. It's just a regular "Waterman's" imprint.

...and of course your nib has been updated: it <ought> to be wearing a #5 nib.

For interest' sake: the 52 and 54 are exactly the same size, with the nib being the only difference.  55 gets bigger and the 56 is only marginally longer than this (55) but it has a broader barrel, too.  Originally your pen was fitted with a #5; but I am sure you know that...

Yes, I did know that the nib had been changed.
