Waterman Identification Help

InkReservoir

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I’ve been struggling to identify this pen and wonder if someone else more familiar with the brand can help.

I thought it might be a waterman gentleman? Trying to determine model, year of manufacture and filling system as it’s missing a part I think - likely a cartridge / converter but not 100% sure?

Thank you in advance!

It's a Waterman Executive, probably made in the late 1970's up til the late 80's. Nice looking pens but dreadfully poor quality. Be very careful with the plastic threads, they will break if you sneeze on them.

This pen will take modern Waterman cartridges (long and short I believe) as well as Waterman converters. It will not take any other type of cartridge, including "universal" or "standard international" cartridges.

These do all mostly have fantastic smooth nibs so they are worth using but the sections are poorly made so be gentle with them. Do not leave the sections soaking in water or dried up with ink too long, the gold plated bit at the front of the section is prone to rusting and falling apart.

Thanks for the reply @LoveBigPensAndCannotLie

Thanks for the info, I will indeed be very careful! Do you know if these can take a Schmidt K5 standard converter, I would guess not seeing as they can’t take the cartridges. Figured I would ask as I have a few of them in the mail.

Unfortunately the section does seem to have some dried up ink and based on your info I don’t think the ultrasonic would be a good idea lol!

I'm not sure but I don't think it would work. The problem is that Waterman pens "supposedly" take standard cartridges but in reality their cartridges are slightly slimmer and smaller than standard "standard" international cartridges. The Schmidt converter will likely be too thick to fit but you can try, just don't try to force it in if it doesn't fit or you will crack the threads (ask me how I know).

Ultrasonic should probably be okay for a bit but don't leave it soaking for like hours, yours seems to be in very good condition in regards to that section ring so you'll probably want to keep it that way.

Do excuse my bitterness, I've had really bad experiences with Waterman's pens from this era so I'm kind of biased against them. Plenty of people love these pens and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it once it's cleaned up.

I appreciate the advice and your thoughts on it. I’ll give the K5 a go and check. Worst case I’ll test the converter from my Carene to see!
