Sonnet identification help

Hello!

I picked up a Parker Sonnet around a year ago from a brick and mortar retailer under its vintage section. It was listed as a Parker Sonnet Cisele circa 1990. Since I was just getting into pens back then I didn't have much knowledge around it and picked it up because I loved how it looked. Its a great writer and I have had no problems with it.

However now I am getting more serious into pens, I picked up a belomo 10x and started looking into it and am now suspicious of 2 things.

1. Is it actually legitimate - I say this as the writing on the cap band of the pen seems a little....scraggly(I know its an older pen so maybe I ma being naïve here!)

2. Is it a pen from 2001 and not the 90's as was advertised. - From date coding I can see it says France U.I which to me looks like the new format and is indicative of 2001?

Lastly, I paid the equivalent of ~200USD for this, which looking back was probably way too steep, but you live and learn lol.

Any help would be appreciated. I have attached some rather janky pictures but hopefully it can help some more experienced Parker people!

You will have seen the date code guide for Parker

There are so many fake Sonnets out there, some good copies and many are just terrible.

I don't mind the engraving so much, I would be looking at the seraphs on the letters for signs of fakedom but yours looks ok.

I would start with the basics such as is the nib magnetic and does it take a Parker cartridge and then go deeper with an article such as this from penhero

Hey,

Thank you for your response and references!

1. Just checked, the nib is not magnetic.

2. It does take a branded parker converter, I don't have any cartridges to hand at the moment.

Thanks again!

@Doc Dan see attached images.

to me it looks a little “fatter” than it should be?

100% genuine, no doubt at all.

Yes the engraving is a bit ordinary but the hallmarks are correct, clip is correct, and one other feature is correct (that counterfeiters never get right).

Very nice sterling sonnet. Could you please post a couple of photos of the nib?
