Is this a joke?

Recommended Posts

My apologies if this has come up before and I didn't see it (not that you need my permission, mods, but if this is a dupe or out-of-place, please dispose of it in the nearest receptacle).

$6,000? For 10ml of a "mystery" ink? Is there a joke or jest or jape I'm missing or have the pain meds for my knee surgery tilted my brain permanently off-kilter?

I donno, but the little bit i've seen of FWP makes me think: nope, they're just doing what they do: seeing what they can get away with.

(not a company I want to have anything to do with personally.)

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

What do the 12 reviews say?

Almost a solid 5 stars across the board. There are 2 pictures of ink received, one a kind of mustard yellow and the other a meh (personal opinion) apple green.

And holy cow, I missed it! There's also a mystery pen for the low, low cost of $15,000.

Agreed. Thanks to the stories I've read here, I think I've been saved both disappointment and wasted money.

At least that bottle looks more stable (although surprisingly cheaper-made) than their "regular" offerings 🙂

Maybe it's a collaboration x Montegrappa to go along with this hubris:

OMG....  That pen costs HOW MUCH?!!!  :yikes:

Well, at least it's not as ugly as their "Pirates of the Caribbean" pen....  Or their Sylvester Stallone "Chaos" pen. Of course that's a pretty big threshold of ugly that they'd have to cross to get something as ugly as either of those....

I....it.... (faints)

At current exchange, that's $133,861.30 US or just over 40 Pelikan Raden Black Infinity M1000 Souverans. One of those would be enough (for varying definitions of "enough", though 40 would be a few too many).

I don't see this on their site. No inks above $40. You sure you were on the right site ans not some scam site?

According to somebody on reddit, this is a "reward item that you can claim with enough points," and the preposterous cash price is "to prevent you from actually purchasing it."

The Montegrappa, on the other hand, is just sheer insanity.

Go to their website and search "mystery". You'll find it.

That makes more sense (I guess), but still very odd. Welp, not like I'm ordering there and fingers crossed nothing untoward happens to any of their shoppers purchases. ("Honestly, honey! No! I don't know 'what's up' with the credit card bill! All I ordered was a bottle of ink!" - insert errant finger slip during ordering here.)

Reminds me of going shopping with someone many years ago in a very exclusive department store, at a beauty counter we were offered some face cream that cost more than the car that took us to the store.

There is always someone who simply is not interested in looking at the price ticket.

That "special edition" pen on the Ferris Wheel Press website?  It costs twice as much as I paid for my first CAR....

Sorry, no.  I don't have that kind of budget.  For that kind of money?  I could have bought FORTY SEVEN Pelikan M405 Stresemanns -- and I SAVED some money on that by getting it on Rolf Thiel's eBay store: I didn't have to pay the US distributor markup, and he didn't have to charge me VAT since I don't live in the EU, and back then eBay didn't collect sales tax....  And my husband was STILL flipping out over the price (well, he flipped out over the price of my FIRST bird, the 1990s era M400 Brown Tortoise because I'd never spent anything like that much money on a pen before).  And since it was the ONE time in my life I had a discretionary budget for whatever I wanted, I ended up also getting the M405 Blue Black from Rolf.

Of course then, an hour later, I got the phone call from PayPal, going "Did you know that a charge of X amount was sent to a vendor in Europe from your account?"  And after assuring PayPal that yes, it was a legit charge, I got off the phone, looked at my husband and said, "OMG -- I really did just spend THAT MUCH MONEY on only TWO pens...." :yikes:

I've seen this kind of reasoning before.  Some online store (not necessarily a pen store), they seemed to required to list out their gift only product in the product listing, and whatever e-commerce platform they use requires the price to be filled.  so they intentionally put in a silly high price tag so people don't accidentally buy them.

I think the problem with FWP is, as of recently their reputation is quite bad that selling an ink at USD 6,000 just seems like in the realm of what FWP will actually do hahaha.

Only 199 of those inks, in stock.

The Mystery is how one kept that sort of money around in the first place, in the face of such temptations.

There is a very exclusive club, called The Richer Than Hell Idiot's Club, where buying such ink, wouldn't get you past the Butler at the door.  That or aimed at the dement.

True. In that case, that's just catastrophic oversight, even perilous to make such a casual decision for mere 'technical reasons'.

They're further tainting (pun intended) their brand as it is.

With a 199 in stock... That don't sound like they don't want some crazy rich person to splurge on a desplay item.
