Octopus Write & Draw Green Tiger

This is my 171st review :)

I really like Octopus inks, especially their Write & Draw series. These are my favorite waterproof/lightfast inks. They are very well behaved, well priced, dependable and a pleasure to use.

This is lovely calm, green pigment ink with medium shading from the Write & Draw series, purrfect for all those feline lovers 🐯

Excellent on copy paper.

Cleaning was easy but it’s a pigment ink and with time it can stick to parts of your pens, you wouldn’t suspect. So, I don’t recommend it for pens that cannot be dismantled or overly expensive, just in case. Though in my long experience with pigment inks, I rarely, if ever have had any problems with cleaning them. It's always handy to have a cleaning solution nearby just in case ;)

Writing Samples:

I used the original spelling from Blakes quote, which led to spelling fiasco here and there :)

Art Work:

I had lofty ideas with this ink, but time/skill constraints didn't make my dreams come true.

The endangered species

It is a pity that we as a species are responsible for so much destruction.

Paper is Fabriano Mixed media. Paper is very white.

This is a more squiggly, tigey, taking life not so seriously...  :)

Note how the colour changes on this cream Talens notebook.

·      Pens used: Pilot Kakuno Ef, Lamy (EF/F/M/B/ Stub 1.1), Kanwrite Desire with Ahab nib.

·      What I liked: Colour.

·      What I did not like: Nothing much.

·       What some might not like: AFOPI (Abnormal fear of pigment inks :D )

·      Shading: Moderate

·      Ghosting: None.

·      Bleed through: None.

·      Flow Rate: Wet

·      Lubrication: Good

·      Nib Dry-out: Did not notice.

·      Start-up:  Good

·      Saturation:  Medium

·      Shading Potential: With wider nibs.

·      Sheen: No.

·      Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Did not notice.

·      Nib Creep / “Crud”: Did not notice.

·      Staining (pen): No.

·      Clogging: Did not notice.

·      Cleaning: I cleaned the Kakuno with water only, but I had to scrub the section were ink got stuck. The more the ink stays in the pen, the more time it needs to be cleaned. It's always a good idea to have some cleaning solution nearby, just in case.

·      Water resistance: Excellent

·      Availability: 50  ml bottles.

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier  :)

Wow!  Way to go, @yazeh!  Congrats.  That's no simple accomplishment. :)

I have yet to see a green tiger, but I'm game...  The chroma looks like 3-4 different shades of green!

Looks nice in the writing samples.  A little too blue and lacking murk, but not bad. :)  I like the extra yellow from Midori - makes it look more planty.  Has good shading.

Rhodia quote: Especially if he's green and you're both in a jungle! :D

Enjoying my scroll through the swatch cards.. :D  Love Mr. Watertest Tiger - that's a really good portrait.  Lucky for you, tigers like water, so @InesF can't complain! :P

Fabulous drawing in "The endangered species" - you really studied your tigers, these are great drawings.  And squiggly tigey is just fun. :)

Thanks for another great review, @yazeh!

@yazeh Hmmmm.  This is one I'd have to see in person.  It looks really good on some paper, but possibly a bit too bright a green for my taste on others.  OTOH, I like that it seems to be pretty water resistant.

Thanks for the comprehensive review as usual -- and well, not....

Thanks a lot. I'm surprised myself. I had to go your method and list all my reviews in an Excel sheet :D

It does doesn't it. If memory serves me write all the Octopus pigment inks are made from a single dye :)

It's on the way to murk. On this snowy day, I'll do anything for colour ;)

It took quite some time to do it correctly, first with pencil, figure out the proportions  etc :) I originally ad a cat & mouse included outside a portrait, with a comic lecture about being more like an ancestor/ or bragging about one ;)

Yes. It's a waterproof/ lightfast ink. Hopefully, it's on the brighter greener side :)

"Tiger, Tiger burning bright ..." was indeed my instant association when I started reading the quotes of your comprehensive and so highly entertaining review.

Well done, @yazeh:thumbup: Thank you for not becoming tired after so many reviews! 👍

However, you included the quote already - and:

correct, this Tiger is waterproof!

I was gifted the 2005 endangered species wall calendar. Tiger was drawing number one (in red 😲). I like your "living room tiger" as well! Octopus W&D Tiger and Squirrel look the most interesting from the swatch cards, subjectively for me.

Looking forward to your next inkterpretation! 😁

One life!

I like tigers.  I like green.  This one seems to have a subtle, soothing chroma.  And not one drop of tiger or kitteh disappeared in your water test.

I also have all your J Herbin comparison inks!

Your sketches, as always, are wonderful.  Kitteh looks a bit wary atop that Tigger.

@yazeh, thanks once again for making daily life colorful with your detailed, entertaining InkSplorations!  And congratulations on your 171st review.  Keep ‘em coming!

It's such a soothing green, and the tiger can fool us into believing it's not  burning bright ;)

They are pleasant. Apparently the Green Squirrel ink, was the @LizEF inspiration for the squirrel who spied on QME (Quin, Makhabest, Essri)

Yes, indeed.  I don't always have time to comment, but I read all your reviews (even when I know I won't care about the ink), and I always enjoy them.  Thank you for the time you put into them, and please keep them coming!
